This provision is good
The childminder provides a broad range of activities that combine children's interests, with their identified next steps for development. Children spend quality time in the local community to enhance their learning. Consequently, children are motivated learners and make good progress. Children are extremely well cared for as the childminder sensitively manages their different care needs. She finds out as much information about the child as possible through ongoing communication with parents. She then ensures that she adapts her practice and routines to meet the needs of each individual child within her care. The childminder has a very good understanding of the safeguarding and welfare requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She implements robust policies, procedures and risk assessments which effectively underpin and promote children's safety and well-being. The childminder holds a suitable first-aid qualification, so she is able to respond

appropriately in the event of an accident.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Babies do not always have enough opportunities to develop their sensory abilities, by exploring and experimenting a range of natural textures and materials. The childminder does not always use her extensive knowledge to ensure that children are further challenged to enable them to make even better progress.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's records, suitability documentation and a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.

who attend. This is good
The childminder ensures that children gain the attributes and skills they will need for moving on to school. She skilfully carries out meaningful observations of children at play, both in her home and on the numerous outings that she takes them on. This ensures that she has an accurate knowledge of their progress, which she shares on a regular basis with parents. Young children learn to enjoy the pleasure of books, as they snuggle close to the childminder and look at pictures together. This supports their early-literacy skills. Children's early communication and language skills are developing as the childminder talks to children about what they are doing. Very young children are taught simple sign language, for example, they learn the sign for a drink which supports them to communicate their needs. The childminder encourages even very young children to make choices over what they play with. They squeal with delight as they splash water that the

childminder has provided for them in the garden. However, there are times when the childminder misses opportunities for babies to develop their sensory abilities through exploration and experimentation. For example, by adding natural textures and materials to sand and water trays to enhance their curiosity.

good
The childminder offers parents and children a flexible settling-in procedure to meet their individual needs. This contributes to the close attachment that children develop with the childminder. They spontaneously seek her out for comfort and reassurance when they are upset. Children learn to share their toys with one another, play together and behave well. The childminder encourages children to enjoy healthy food, as she provides wholesome and nutritious snacks and meals. Children have lots of opportunities to get fresh air and exercise. For example, they walk to the local school, parks, shops and cafes. The childminder regularly attends local groups, so that children have opportunities to mix with other children and adults to develop their social skills and confidence.
p.3
provision is good
The childminding provision is efficiently organised. The childminder monitors the practice rigorously. She is well qualified and continually seeks additional training to boost her knowledge and skills. This has a positive impact on the quality of education and care provided. However, the childminder is not yet incorporating the valuable knowledge and skills she gains through her professional development into her practice. The childminder evaluates her setting and sets herself realistic targets to work towards. The childminder works closely with parents, grandparents and other settings that children may attend. This means that children receive a consistent approach to their care and learning.
