This inspection

This home was judged good at the last full inspection. At this interim inspection Ofsted judge that it has sustained effectiveness .

p.2

This inspection

Young people continue to make good progress in important areas of their lives. For example, young people’s education attendance has increased significantly. A head teacher confirmed this highlighting, ‘massive strides forward’. As a result, young people’s academic abilities and social skills improve. A social worker confirmed this stating, ‘education is going well, they are improving’. This progress is underpinned by consistent support from staff.

p.2

This inspection

Young people develop their own interests and hobbies and are passionate about these. This has helped them to become more settled and self-confident. On some occasions young people struggle to manage their emotions, this affects their behaviour. Sometimes physical intervention is needed to keep them and others safe. Incidents are generally well handled by staff who follow clear strategies. As a result, the frequency of these incidents has decreased. Positive behaviour is rewarded and celebrated. This improves young people’s self-esteem and further promotes appropriate behaviour. A small number of consequences are used in response to negative behaviours. The effectiveness of these measures is not always evaluated or recorded. As a result, opportunities for learning and reflection are missed. The number of consequences used reduces the impact of this shortfall.

p.2

This inspection

The Registered Manager has addressed all three of the recommendations made at the last inspection. Due to this, risk assessments are more detailed and robust. In addition, the Registered Manager’s procedure for monitoring the activities of the home has improved. Reports contain more analysis and show the aspirations for the future of the home. This drives improvement more effectively.

p.2

This inspection

The home works closely with a number of professionals from different agencies. These include social care, education and mental health services. A social worker confirmed this commenting that they are kept well informed. They felt this was a 3 of 6 strength of the home. A head teacher agreed and noted that, ‘handovers and continuity have been good’. This approach ensures information is shared appropriately and young people receive consistent care. This supports their progress.

p.2

This inspection

One additional shortfall has been noted at this inspection. The home is well maintained and nicely decorated. In contrast, one area of the garden contained refuse and has not been adequately maintained. This does not create an aesthetically pleasing outdoor environment for young people or staff. 4 of 6
