This provision is good
The childminder has a very good understanding of how children learn through play and exploration. She provides a broad range of resources and interesting activities, to promote children's progress across the seven areas of learning. Children have good opportunities to make choices and follow their own interests during play and activities. The childminder is attentive and responsive to their lead. The childminder develops good relationships with children. She gets to know their individual personalities very well, and they are very settled and happy in her care. The childminder is a good role model. Children behave well because the childminder reinforces positive behaviour with praise and encouragement. She teaches children to share and take turns. Children's good health is successfully promoted. Children benefit from plenty of opportunities to play in the garden and learn outside in the fresh air. The childminder

provides healthy snacks. Children are kept safe because the childminder has a good understanding of how to protect them from harm. She has completed safeguarding training and is qualified in paediatric first aid. She successfully identifies and minimises potential risks to children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently encourage parents to share information about their child's ongoing learning and development at home.

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed all areas of the home that are used for childminding. The inspector observed children engaged in a variety of activities, inside and outdoors. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures and the childminder's self-evaluation document. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's training, and the suitability of all adults in the household. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.

who attend. This is good
The childminder draws on the wealth of her experience to support children to make good progress. She accurately assesses children's capabilities and stages of development, identifying what they need to learn next. There are good opportunities for young children to use their senses during play. For example, the childminder provides vanilla-scented dough for children to explore. They enjoy squashing, pulling and poking it to experience its texture. As children play with construction vehicles on a layer of tea grains, they are fascinated by the crunching sounds made. The quality of the childminder's teaching is good. She shows children how to do things, such as rolling cars down a ramp. This helps children to learn how to do things by themselves. The childminder interacts very well with children, promoting their speaking and language skills. She extends children's vocabulary by naming objects and colours. She repeats language back to children and describes what

they are doing, effectively modelling speech. She asks questions to promote children's critical thinking and to encourage them to express their thoughts and ideas. Children's early mathematical skills are promoted, as the childminder models counting and talks about size. Overall, children are prepared well for the next stage in their learning.

good
The childminder provides a safe and welcoming play environment for children. She works in partnership with parents to foster children's well-being and help them to settle in. She promotes children's independence and personal-care skills well, relative to their ages and capabilities. She encourages children's sense of responsibility and cooperation, for example, as they help to tidy away toys. Children have regular opportunities to mix with other children and adults, for example, as they attend local toddler groups. This enables them to develop confidence in different social situations, supported by their strong attachment with the childminder.

provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She monitors children's progress, so that any gaps in their development are identified and addressed. She establishes good relationships with parents. Information about children's care and learning is shared through daily diaries and regular discussions. However, the childminder does not obtain detailed information from all parents about what children have been learning and achieving at home. Therefore, she does not have a complete picture of children's wider experiences to inform future planning. The childminder regularly meets and shares ideas with other childminders. She is committed to ongoing professional development, to continually strengthen her practice. The childminder evaluates her provision, taking the views of parents and children into account, and reflects on ways to improve. Parents are very happy with the service she provides.
