This provision is good

 The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She plans activities based on children's individual interests in order to promote their good progress towards the early learning goals.  The childminder has warm and caring relationships with children, who feel comfortable and confident in her care. The childminder supports their self-esteem well by consistently praising their individual achievements.  The childminder creates a safe place for children to play and learn. She keeps children safe from harm by identifying and minimising any hazards using her risk assessments regularly to help her. The childminder has a good understanding of the local safeguarding procedures to follow to help protect children's welfare, should she have any concerns.  The childminder develops good partnerships with parents in order to promote a consistent approach to children's care and learning.

who attend. This is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She uses this knowledge effectively to support children's learning as she engages in their play. For example, she talks about the ice castle they have made, discussing what it feels like to touch and exploring what happens to it in the sun. The childminder skilfully questions children in order to promote their thinking skills. She effectively promotes children's progress towards the early learning goals through her varied and interesting educational programmes. Although, the lack of resources in the garden playhouse means children are not getting the most from role play. The childminder observes children regularly and uses this information to assess their abilities and plan the next steps of their development. This helps her to ensure children develop the attitudes and dispositions that prepare them well for their next stage of learning or moving on to school.

p.3

good

The childminder effectively promotes children's emotional well-being. She obtains good information from parents to get to know children well. The childminder helps children learn about being healthy by providing nutritious snacks and reminding them to drink water on a regular basis. Children follow familiar hygiene routines, which they learn to complete independently where possible. Children learn how to keep themselves safe, for example, the childminder gives gentle reminders to walk up and down steps carefully. Children enjoy the time spent outdoors, where they use different physical skills as they dig in the sand tray, push dolls in pushchairs and ride on wheeled toys. The childminder provides the children with healthy and nutritious meals and snacks. Children benefit from weekly trips to local groups to develop their social skills and confidence.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder is motivated to improve her service and has effective strategies to maintain ongoing improvements. For example, she uses parent questionnaires to gather their views to help her identify her strengths and weaknesses. Parents contribute to the initial assessment of their children's progress when they first start, providing information about their child's care and development. Settling-in procedures and daily exchanges of information ensure that partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder monitors children's progress well to identify and address any gaps in their learning. She supervises her assistants at all times and ensures they are aware of children's individual needs. The childminder attends regular training to update her skills, for example, she is more confident in dealing with situations to better support children's behaviour and individual needs.
