This provision is good

 The childminder and her assistant have an extremely close bond with the children. She provides highly consistent and clear boundaries, which help children to feel exceptionally safe and secure. As a result, children are kind to one another and behave extremely well.  The quality of teaching is good. The childminder ensures that learning is fun and interesting. Children enjoy a broad range of exciting activities, which supports them to make good progress in all areas of learning.  Partnerships with parents, professionals and other early years providers are strong. The childminder gathers information from parents about children's interests and finds out what they can do. This helps her to plan effectively for children's individual needs.  The childminder maintains a secure and welcoming environment where children play safely. She is clear about safeguarding procedures and has a good understanding about

what to do if she had a concern about a child's welfare.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always make the most of opportunities for children to practise their early writing skills. For example, she writes the children's names on their pictures, rather than encouraging them to have a go for themselves.  The childminder selects appropriate resources from storage for babies, but most of these are made of plastic and manufactured materials. The childminder does not regularly provide younger children with everyday objects and natural resources to explore and investigate to ignite their interest about the world.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

who attend. This is good

The childminder makes regular observations and assessments of the children engaged in activities. This enables her to plan focused next steps, so that children's learning develops each day. Children thoroughly enjoyed singing songs and rhymes, enthusiastically joining in with the actions. Children listened well as the childminder read them a story. The childminder skilfully extended children's mathematical skills through encouraging them to count items in the story and make simple calculations. The childminder makes the most of spontaneous learning opportunities. For example, when a seagull flies past the window, it initiates a discussion among the children about what seagulls eat. The children helped the childminder to search for information on her computer tablet, which supports their understanding of the world. The childminder and her assistant join in with the children's play. Children count in routines and learn about numbers. They learn new words and

outstanding

Children have exceptionally strong attachments to the childminder and her assistant. The childminder is incredibly warm and caring in her approach, which successfully supports children's physical and emotional well-being. Children's confidence and independence are successfully nurtured as they play in an extensively well-resourced and comfortable playroom. The childminder provides excellent opportunities for children to develop their physical skills. They learn about the importance of hygiene and understand that exercise helps them to grow big and strong. The childminder provides a wide range of nutritious meals, which children enjoy. This positive approach contributes highly to children's excellent understanding about healthy lifestyles.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She is clear about her role and responsibility to keep children safe and is able to identify the signs and symptoms that may be a cause for concern. The childminder monitors children's progress and regularly reflects on her practice, seeking the views of her assistant, parents and children. She monitors her assistant well through daily discussion, supervision meetings and yearly appraisals. The childminder recognises the importance of her professional development and identifies key training to enhance her practice. For example, she provides focused activities to promote children's speech and language. She has addressed the weakness raised at the last inspection well to improve outcomes for children.
