This provision is good

 The childminder provides a happy and welcoming environment for children to play and learn in. She provides a broad range of toys, resources and activities both inside and outdoors.  The childminder promotes children's language and communication, confidence and social skills well. Children enjoy their time with her and are well prepared for the next stages of their learning.  Children behave very well. They understand the childminder's expectations and the routines of the day.  Partnerships with parents are firmly established. They receive a welcome pack when their children enter the setting. The childminder keeps parents regularly updated about the progress their children make in their learning and development. Parents are positive about the care their children receive.  The childminder evaluates her practice effectively. She is confident to highlight the strengths of her provision and has well-planned targets for future improvement.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

who attend. This is good

The childminder has effective teaching skills. Overall, she interacts purposefully with children, giving explanations, demonstrations and instructions to aid their learning. Children engage well in their play and demonstrate that they are motivated to learn. The childminder has a secure understanding of their interests, abilities and next steps. Children play happily alongside each other most of the time. They join in together as they pretend to be in the 'big band' playing their musical instruments or during their role play as shoppers buying produce. However, the childminder sometimes misses opportunities to extend the ways in which children learn from each other and remain focused, for example, through talking about their play and the roles they have in it, or listening to each other's views. The childminder makes focused observations of children's learning and provides each child with a learning journal, in order to assess their progress.

p.3

good

Children have warm bonds with the childminder, who is attentive to their needs. Her home environment is stimulating and challenging. Children are confident to choose what they want to do, and are confident and content in the childminder's care. The childminder promotes children's independence well. They help out with small tasks such as setting the table for lunch or snack time. Children understand the importance of self-care routines such as hand washing. Overall, they enjoy their meals. They butter rolls and make decisions about the fillings they choose. However, the childminder misses some opportunities to highlight the benefits of healthy eating and the impact good nutrition has on their bodies. The childminder promotes children's physical development well, with children benefiting from regular outdoor play, fresh air and exercise.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She has updated this through training, including a recognised qualification at Level 3, which has helped to further promote outcomes for children and her professional development in a positive way. The childminder implements her policies and procedures effectively, to keep children safe and support their health and well-being. She has updated her paediatric first- aid training and therefore has reviewed her understanding of how to deal with medical emergencies. The childminder demonstrates a good understanding of child protection matters. She has a secure knowledge of the procedures to follow should she have a concern about a child in her care. The childminder is establishing partnerships with others who share care of the children.
