Previous inspection: Good 2 How well the early years provision meets the needs of the range of children who attend Requires improvement The contribution of the early years provision to the well-being of children Requires improvement The effectiveness of the leadership and management of the early years provision Requires improvement The setting does not meet legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:

 Ofsted has not been notified of changes to persons aged 16 years or older, living on the premises. This compromises the effective management of the provision.  The quality of the childminder's teaching is variable. She does not always use information from her observations to accurately shape the children's further learning experiences.  The childminder does not always make the best use of her resources, to support good- quality learning experiences. As a result, children are not always fully motivated and engaged in their learning.  The childminder has not explored further ways to encourage other providers to share information about the children's learning, in order to promote continual progression in their development.  Self-evaluation procedures are not sufficiently robust, to clearly identify and target areas for improvement.

p.1

It has the following strengths

 Children are happy and settled. They naturally approach the childminder for reassurance, which demonstrates that they feel safe and emotionally secure.  The childminder is aware of her responsibilities to protect children from abuse and neglect. She successfully identifies and minimises hazards in her home and garden.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage the provider must:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 improve teaching skills and ensure ongoing assessment is consistently used to inform the planning of challenging activities, that sharply focus on children's precise learning needs and ,therefore, helps them to make good progress in their learning  make better use of resources to further facilitate children's play and learning, in order to provide good-quality learning experiences.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend partnerships with other providers, for example, by gathering more detailed information about children's learning, to enhance and complement the opportunities provided  develop procedures for self-evaluation, to ensure targets for improvement are based on rigorous monitoring of practice, and take account of parent's and children's views.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the Childcare Register the provider must:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 ensure Ofsted is informed of changes of circumstances as soon as they occur and no later than 14 working days after the changes occur (compulsory part of the Childcare Register)  ensure Ofsted is informed of the name, date of birth, address and telephone number of any person aged 16 or over living on the premises (compulsory part of the Childcare Register)  ensure Ofsted is informed of changes of circumstances as soon as they occur and no later than 14 working days after the changes occur (voluntary part of the Childcare Register)  ensure Ofsted is informed of the name, date of birth, address and telephone number of any person aged 16 or over living on the premises (voluntary part of the Childcare Register).

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and routines in the indoor areas.  The inspector spoke to the childminder throughout the inspection, and spent time interacting with the children.  The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation and a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures.  The inspector discussed the self-evaluation and reviewed evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other household members.

who attend. This requires improvement

The childminder completes some observations of children as they play and has a general overview of their development. However, she does not always effectively use this information to fully extend individual children's learning. Consequently, not all activities are well planned to ensure children are suitably challenged to learn, in readiness for school. The quality of the childminder's teaching is variable. The childminder does not always challenge children's thinking as they play, and sometimes asks questions in quick succession. As a result, children are not always given enough time to think and respond for themselves. Furthermore, opportunities are missed to reinforce children's counting skills and awareness of shapes. For example, during threading activities the childminder consistently focuses on colour recognition. Nevertheless, children enjoy their time in the childminder's care. The childminder supports children to make pictures on 'mosaic pegs'

and chalkboards. She maintains their concentration by encouraging them to create pictures with the pegs and name different facial features on the 'chalk face'.

p.4

requires improvement

The childminder provides a welcoming, homely and appropriately resourced environment. However, she does not always make the best use of her resources to fully extend and support children's learning. For example, children's enjoyment during imaginative role-play activities is not always sustained, as the range of resources provided are minimal. Additionally, the childminder sometimes makes decisions for the children about what they would like to play with. Children have opportunities to be in the fresh air and access appropriate play equipment in the park. They enjoy healthy snack options and have access to water when they are thirsty. The childminder uses age-appropriate techniques to teach children about acceptable behaviour. She supports children's understanding of right and wrong, and encourages them to help tidy away the resources.

p.4

provision requires improvement

Management arrangements are not secure. This is because the childminder has not informed Ofsted of all adults living on her premises, despite obtaining Disclosure and Barring Service checks for them. The childminder holds an appropriate childcare qualification and has completed a number of online training courses to enhance her knowledge and skills. However, at the time of the inspection, this was not having a positive enough impact on the quality of her teaching and the overall management of her provision. The childminder has recently begun to make some evaluations of her provision. However, current evaluations have a limited impact. Furthermore, the childminder has not yet taken account of the views of parents and children. Parents are kept appropriately informed about their child's care and progress. However, partnerships with other providers are not always consistently established, so that a more collaborate approach to children's
