This provision is good
Children are happy and settled, and their individual routines and needs are well met by a knowledgeable childminder. This means that children's personal, social and emotional needs are effectively promoted. The childminder provides a wide variety of learning opportunities that reflect the needs and interests of the children who attend. As a result, children's development is good. Children develop a good mathematical understanding, as the childminder introduces numbers, shapes and sizes into their play successfully. The childminder has a good understanding of how to promote the health and safety of children in her care. Effective risk assessments ensure that hazards in the environment are identified and minimised, so that children remain safe. Children have access to a good selection of toys and resources, which allows them to make choices and initiate their own play and learning. This fosters their independence
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently obtain information from parents about their child's starting points, to enable her to plan targeted activities from the outset. The childminder is not consistent in ensuring that she remembers to encourage children to wash their hands before eating, to support their self-help and good hygiene skills further.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

who attend. This is good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. This is because the childminder's knowledge of how children learn is good. She offers different levels of challenge for children, depending on their age and stage of development. Children gain skills to support their development and prepare them for nursery and school. For example, the childminder promotes children's communication skills by listening and responding to what they say. Children also enjoy sharing stories. This promotes their enjoyment of books and helps young children to build a good vocabulary. The childminder has good relationships with parents and shares details of children's ongoing progress. She finds out about children's individual care routines on entry, but does not always extend this to seeking detailed information about children's prior learning. This means she does not have an in-depth view of all children's starting points, to help plan well-targeted activities from

good
The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment, where children develop positive relationships with the childminder. They enjoy her cuddles, praise and constant reassurance. This nurtures their emotional well-being successfully. Children behave well. This is because the childminder is a good role model. She uses simple language when providing instructions for young children. They learn how to keep themselves safe as they play, and know how to exit the premises in an emergency. Children get plenty of fresh air and exercise as they use the garden or the nearby park on a daily basis. The childminder provides a range of healthy and nutritious snacks. She changes nappies hygienically and regularly uses tissues to wipe children's noses. However, she does not always encourage children to wash their hands before eating, to promote their understanding of effective hygiene practice.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder has secure knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. She demonstrates a good awareness of her role in safeguarding children, and the procedures to follow in the event of a concern. A good range of policies and procedures are used effectively to support children's safety and well-being. Efficient systems for planning and assessment mean children receive good levels of support as they make good progress towards the early learning goals. The childminder reviews her practice regularly. For example, she evaluates what went well, or not so well, during activities. The childminder has a good awareness of the strengths of her practice and areas for development. For example, she aims to further develop the garden area to promote children's outdoor learning and physical skills. The childminder completes regular training to inform her practice further. She uses her skills to deliver good-quality provision
