The setting does not meet legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is inadequate

 At times, the childminder and her assistant tend to oversee children rather than providing good quality teaching for them. This has a negative impact upon children's ability to make good progress in their learning.  The childminder does not record accurate information about children, in order to be able to assess and meet their needs.  The childminder has failed to meet her legal responsibilities with regard to informing Ofsted of changes to her provision. She has not completed the required documentation regarding the use of an assistant. The childminder has also not provided Ofsted with information or documentation to indicate a change of name.  Relationships with parents are not effective. The childminder cannot demonstrate that she informs parents of accidents that have happened.

p.1

It has the following strengths

 The childminder and her assistant have some plans in place for future training to develop their knowledge. She supports the work of her assistant as they talk about children's care.  The childminder provides a range of toys for children to play with.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage the provider must:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 ensure that children receive good quality teaching that includes frequent positive interactions with adults, to meet their emerging needs and interests and guide their development  ensure that children's personal records of information are correct and accurate, particularly including the date of birth  ensure that there are effective procedures in place for informing parents of any accidents children have.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the Childcare Register the provider must:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 keep an accurate record of the date of birth of each child looked after on the premises (compulsory part of the Childcare Register)  inform Ofsted of any change to name, including supplying relevant documentation to confirm any change (compulsory part of the Childcare Register)  keep an accurate record of the date of birth of each child looked after on the premises (voluntary part of the Childcare Register)  inform Ofsted of any change to name, including supplying relevant documentation to confirm any change (voluntary part of the Childcare Register).

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspection was prioritised following the risk assessment process.  The inspector viewed a range of documentation. This included evidence of the suitability of the childminder and her assistant, first-aid and qualification certificates, registers and children's learning files.  The inspector observed children's learning activities and lunchtime.  The inspector held a meeting with the childminder and her assistant at suitable times during the inspection.

p.2

who attend. This is inadequate

The quality of teaching is inadequate. This is because the childminder and her assistant do not organise the daily routine, or the practice to make sure that children benefit from high-quality interactions at all times. Children play in the park with the assistant, which helps develop their physical skills. The childminder supervises them as they cross the road from the park. However, during this time, there is some disorganisation of supervision. Older children move between the park, and areas in the house, including upstairs, downstairs and in the garden. This leaves the childminder only overseeing younger children as they play, rather than providing them with good quality learning experiences. Children do not have the support they need to make good progress in their learning. Therefore, children do not gain the essential skills they require for emerging into successful learners in readiness for school. The childminder takes children on activities and

outings outside of the home to promote some aspects of their learning.

p.3

inadequate

Children's well-being is not assured, as a result of weaknesses in the childminder's leadership and management. There are aspects of safeguarding that have not been fully addressed. Children appear settled and fond of the childminder and her assistant. They build suitable relationships with both adults, meaning they generally settle well. Children sleep as and when they require, meaning they have adequate rest. The childminder provides snacks and meals that include a suitable balance of foods. This helps children to learn about what is good for their bodies, including fresh air and exercise, as they learn about healthy lifestyles. The childminder and her assistant promote children's good behaviour, by explaining the consequences of their actions. This helps children to understand the expectations of their behaviour.

p.3

provision is inadequate

When the childminder informs Ofsted of changes, she does not follow their directions to complete required checks. She has failed to produce evidence of a change to her name and has not completed a declaration of suitability for her assistant. Therefore, she does not fulfil all required procedures and children's safety is not fully assured. The childminder and her assistant recognise the signs and symptoms that might cause them concern about children's welfare. Both have required checks in place to confirm their suitability to work with children. The childminder does not check the accuracy of the records she holds. As a result, she does not realise when information is incorrect. This means that she does not know children's dates of birth. Therefore, she is not aware of whether she is working within correct legal ratios, and she does not have suitable information should she need to make a referral to other services. Partnerships are not well developed with all families.

p.3

provision is inadequate

The childminder cannot demonstrate that she informs parents when their child has an accident in her care. Although the childminder has a recognised early years qualification, she is unable to identify when there are breaches in specific legal requirements. The childminder and her assistant express a desire to raise the quality of care they provide for children.
