The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder provides a stimulating and well-resourced environment, where children are happy confident learners.  The childminder has a good understanding of how to keep children safe.  The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements and how to implement these effectively.  The childminder makes accurate assessments of children learning, ensuring children make good progress.  Children enjoy a wealth of activities and experiences, both inside and outside the home.  Children have good hygiene routines. They enjoy a wide range of healthy snacks and meals, which promotes their good health.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not gather sufficient, detailed information about what children already know and can do when they first start in order to help establish clear starting points.  The good partnership working in place does not extend to including all parents and children in establishing the strengths and weaknesses of the provision.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 gather more detailed information from parents about what children can already do in order to help establish clear starting points for future learning  build further on the good partnership working in place, for example, by including children and parents more fully in evaluating the quality of the provision.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation, evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises and a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home.

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder has good knowledge of the learning and development requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She understands the needs of the children well and offers a wide range of planned learning experiences, supporting children's good progress. The childminder uses appropriate language, introducing new words, so children grow in confidence with their communication and language skills. This prepares children for further learning at school. Partnerships with parents are generally strong, with information shared through daily feedback sheets. However, the childminder does not gather sufficient information about what children already know and can do, in order to establish clear starting points for their future learning.

p.3

good

The childminder provides a safe and secure environment for children, where they are confident to play and learn. She develops children's confidence and self-esteem through cuddles, appropriate praise and encouragement. As a result, children are eager to explore. Children benefit from trips out to toddler groups, play centres, parks and local places of interest. This enables them to be physically active, promoting their good health. This also encourages social skills as children learn to take turns and share. Children behave well, as the childminder has clear boundaries and deals with situations positively. Children learn about healthy foods from growing vegetables and spending time at the childminder's allotment, supporting them to make healthy choices at mealtimes.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the safeguarding and welfare requirements and how to keep children safe. She knows the correct procedures to follow should she have concerns about a child's welfare. She is trained in safeguarding, first aid and food safety, which has enhanced her knowledge even further. The childminder completes regular safety checks of her premises and resources, and risk assesses outings to ensure the continued safety of children. The childminder clearly understands how to successfully support children's learning and development. She has acted on the recommendation raised at her last inspection, and as a result, seeks further information about children's cultures from parents and uses this to develop her practice. Overall, partnerships with parents are strong. However, this partnership working does not extend to including the views of parents and children in the evaluation of the provision. This means that the

childminder is not always fully aware of their opinions.
