p.1
Monitoring for provision judged as inadequate
An Ofsted inspector, Patricia Graham, monitored your provision on 28/04/2015 following your inspection where the provision was judged to be inadequate.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
As a result of our inspection on 02/03/2015, we sent you a welfare requirements notice. If you were set actions at the inspection, or as a result of our subsequent monitoring or investigations, these are included at the end of this letter.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
This visit was the first monitoring visit since your childminding provision was judged ‘inadequate with enforcement’ following the inspection of 2 March 2015.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
During the visit, the inspector met with you and a representative of the local authority’s quality and outcomes team, to discuss the action that you have taken since your last inspection. A range of documentation was reviewed, including your improvement plan, and the inspector discussed the strategies that you have in place to promote children’s learning and development.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
Since your inspection, you have worked with the quality and outcomes team and together you have developed an improvement plan, which stipulates areas that require improvement identified at your recent inspection. The timescales are realistic and achievable, and as a result, you have already addressed some of these areas. You have improved your knowledge of safeguarding procedures, including the action to take in the event of an allegation being made against yourself or a family member. You have also secured further training to ensure that you have up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding issues. Suitable procedures are now in place to promote the good health of children because you ensure freshly laundered bedding is available for children who sleep or rest during the day. You have also improved the procedures for administering medication, and you are acutely aware that medication can only be administered with parents’ written consent.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
The inspector found that although you have improved the procedures for recording accidents, you could not provide evidence that you hold a valid paediatric first-aid certificate. As a result, children’s safety and well-being is not assured in the event of an accident. Nevertheless, you have booked a place on a first-aid training course that is approved by the local authority.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
The inspector found that most of the improvements made have focused predominantly on the safeguarding and welfare requirements. However, you have placed less emphasis on meeting the learning and development requirements. You accept these are areas that still require improvement, and you have also identified key aspects that you would like to focus on, such as planning activities for younger children. You have arranged training sessions with the quality and outcomes team in June and July 2015. These sessions have been targeted to cover planning, assessment and teaching to enhance outcomes for children. As these sessions have not yet taken place, it is not possible to assess their impact on outcomes for children. Therefore we shall continue to monitor the quality of learning and development.
p.2
Outcome of monitoring
Since your inspection, you have re-established links with the local children’s centre and joined online forums to seek ideas and support to help you in your quest to promote children’s learning and development. You have also encouraged parents to share information from their child’s progress check with their health visitor in order to support integrated working. However, much more is needed to ensure that the quality of teaching and educational programme meets the individual learning needs of all the children that attend.
p.2
Outcome of monitoring
Having considered all the available evidence, the inspector is of the opinion that you have not taken prompt and effective action to address all the points for improvement.
p.2
