The childminder has an exceptional knowledge of the children through her thorough observations of their achievements and learning styles. Parents regularly contribute to their children's learning through information sharing and the childminder uses this highly effectively to plan exciting activities for children's next steps. Children engage exceptionally well with various planned and spontaneous activities. She gives each child individual attention ensuring that every child is effectively challenged. For example, older children are encouraged to count how many spoonfuls it takes to fill the bucket and younger children explore how hand prints are made in the sand. Therefore, the childminder makes excellent use of opportunities to extend children's mathematical knowledge and sensory exploration. The childminder is highly skilled at allowing children sufficient time to process information and learn how things work for themselves. For

outstanding

The childminder has an excellent range of resources that are well-labelled and easily accessible to the children, promoting their early reading skills and independence. Children are confident and ask questions in the very supportive and warm environment. For example, excellent displays of the cycle of growing fruit are displayed to evoke questions and help to develop children's understanding of the world and what makes us healthy. The childminder promotes children's name recognition through clear labels on pegs that hold their towels and coats, and young children are keen to say who they belong to. This supports children exceptionally well for when they attend school as they are able to recognise their names. The childminder has highly effective ways of promoting children's physical well-being through healthy snacks and regular outdoor activities, such as pedalling cars. The childminder gives comprehensive explanations to children so that they
