p.1

This provision is good

 Children's emotional development is excellent due to the familiar routines and the calm, understanding support they receive from both the childminder and the assistant. The childminder meets children's physical needs exceptionally well.  The childminder provides high-quality provision. She has attended training events to extend her teaching skills, which have had a good impact on children's learning experiences.  The childminder has a very good understanding of safeguarding; she is clear about her roles and responsibilities, meets requirements and safeguards children to a very high standard.  The childminder builds excellent relationships with the parents and shares information regularly to keep them fully informed about their children's progress and activities.  The childminder provides a variety of interesting play and learning experiences inside and outside the home. These help children to make good progress and to be prepared

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The educational programmes ensure children are making good progress in the different areas of learning; however, children's progress in mathematics is not as effective as in the other areas.

who attend. This is good

Children enjoy their time with the childminder. They arrive confidently and are keen to begin their day. They make good progress as they take part in a varied balance of adult- led activities and freely chosen play. The childminder, her co-childminder and her assistant have a good understanding of how children learn. They use children's interests to plan stimulating activities that build children's knowledge and skills ready for school. For example, children enjoy listening to stories and learning about different sounds. Younger ones happily repeat bird sounds, while older children learn about letter sounds. The childminder uses opportunities to encourage children to count and use numbers in a variety of ways, but does not promote other areas of mathematical development. Children develop very good communication skills. They are confident talkers, due to the effective techniques used by the childminder and her co-childminder. For example, they ask skilful

questions to encourage conversations as the children take part in a variety of activities.

p.3

outstanding

The childminder provides an excellent choice of resources to promote children's learning and development. The children profit from lots of opportunities to learn through exploring the outside environment. The childminder organises the resources extremely well with some stored to allow children to choose what to do, so they enjoy their play. This promotes children's independent learning very well. The childminder fully promotes the children's health and safety within the home. She uses clear explanations to help children learn to understand hazards. She helps children gain the confidence and personal care skills they need to make the move to school or nursery as smooth as possible.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has an extensive range of policies and procedures underpinning the safe and efficient running of her setting. The childminder recognises her responsibilities in regard to her assistant and checks ongoing suitability to work with children as part of his supervision. Self-evaluation systems identify and deal with any areas for development. The childminder has addressed the recommendations from her previous inspection. Her increased knowledge from training, and the changes that she has made, have allowed the childminder to maintain the good standard of her provision. For example, she has developed her assessment and monitoring systems to track children's progress well. The childminder works well with other settings children attend to help maintain continuity for children's learning.
