p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder has an exceptionally strong and caring ethos that puts the child at the centre of everything she and her co-childminder do. Children have developed strong attachments to the childminders who work well together to meet children's individual needs and support their emotional well-being.  The quality of teaching is good. The childminder has a good understanding of children's individual stages of development. She uses this to provide interesting activities, which enhance and develop children's skills and knowledge.  The childminder offers good support for children who speak English as an additional language. Their development of language is given clear priority and they quickly gain skills in understanding and speaking English in the setting.  The childminder promotes strong partnerships with parents and other professionals and ensures that children have very good continuity in their welfare and learning.

p.1

This provision is good

 Children are safeguarded because the childminder maintains close supervision during their play. She understands the importance of following the correct procedures in the event of child protection concerns.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Opportunities for younger children to consistently engage in activities which enable them to explore a more natural environment have not been fully explored.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 enhance the opportunities for children to explore more natural resources and materials in the outdoor learning environment.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding, observed her interaction with the children and discussed all aspects of her practice.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector took account of the parent's views through written feedback.  The inspector looked at children's records, assessment records, and a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures.

who attend. This is good

The childminder is qualified in childcare and has years of experience of teaching children through play. She provides a wide variety of play opportunities. This enables children to make good progress in all areas of development. The childminder effectively supports children's communication and language skills. She engages children in conversation, models language clearly and introduces new words, such as squidgy, to extend their vocabulary. Children are given good opportunities to write their own name on their work. This helps to promote skills for children's future learning at school. Young children enjoy a range of sensory play experiences. They enjoy mixing rice with water, squeezing the mixture between their hands. However, children have less opportunity to fully explore a natural environment and resources in their outdoor play. The childminder observes and assesses children's level of achievement and shares this information with parents. Parents

contribute to children's starting points, and ongoing information from parents is valued by the childminder so that they receive consistent support.

p.3

outstanding

The childminder has formed secure, highly trusting relationships with all children and their families. Children quickly develop a sense of belonging and flourish. Children's art work is highly valued and attractively displayed around the home. Children behave very well. Effective rules and boundaries are in place so that children learn to gain respect for adults, their peers and their environment. Children gain a very good understanding of empathy and kindness towards others and display beautiful manners in the setting. Outdoor play is an integral part of the day so that children spend time in the fresh air. They are provided with excellent physical challenges on a range of climbing equipment. Children are encouraged to lead a healthy lifestyle. They eat an excellent range of healthy, home- cooked foods and help to grow and harvest a range of produce in the garden.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder works alongside another registered childminder. Together, they form a strong partnership that works effectively together to meet children's needs and ensure they make good progress. Partnerships with other providers are effectively established to ensure a coordinated approach to children's care and development. Both childminders consistently reflect on their practice so that that can develop and implement ideas for improvement. The childminder seeks out all available support and training courses to update her knowledge and skills. This has a positive impact on the care and learning provided. Children are well supervised as they move around the play areas. The childminder risk assesses the areas children use to provide a safe and suitable environment. Parents are positive about the quality of the provision and feel that the childminder's provide a warm family environment and marvellous experiences.
