This provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, enabling her to effectively meet children's needs. She lays a good foundation for children's development across the prime areas of learning. She builds on these to extend children's capabilities by introducing other activities, including early literacy. Children play well together and explore the resources that are within reach, taking turns and sharing. The childminder provides a relaxed environment in which children are extremely comfortable. She inspires children's confidence and cooperation with lots of praise and her soothing voice. The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibility to keep children safe. She regularly updates her knowledge to ensure she is well informed about current practice in safeguarding. The childminder has effective systems to ensure her assistant is informed about his

role. The childminder clearly explains his responsibility with regard to safeguarding and she regularly observes interaction when he delivers activities. The childminder provides clear feedback so that there is continuous improvement in his practice. Parents are very pleased with the childminder. Written feedback includes, 'she is approachable and provides a welcoming environment. Children settle easily and make good progress in their development. She provides lots of cuddles, ensuring children's well-being is thoroughly promoted'.

It is not yet outstanding because:
Opportunities are missed to help children learn about similarity and difference in society, so that children can widen their understanding.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the premises with the childminder. The inspector observed teaching and learning activities in the indoor environment. The inspector looked at a sample of procedures and children's records. The inspector checked the childminder's self-evaluation form and written feedback from parents. The inspector spoke with the childminder and the children during the inspection.

who attend. This is good
The childminder uses her good knowledge of how children learn to effectively promote their development. Accurate assessments and good planning ensure that children's individual needs are well met. The childminder provides a language-rich environment in which children develop their abilities to listen, understand and speak. This helps them to fully engage during activities. Children enjoy cutting dough into shapes and the childminder helps them to explore textures as they play. She recognises that they are interested in colours and includes these in planned activities. The childminder effectively extends children's vocabulary by talking about zig-zag patterns and models how to make these on strips of dough. She has high expectations of children and consistently offers praise. Children are motivated to make their own shapes and also practise their skills in making marks. Children's early number skills are developing because the childminder point

to objects as she counts them, ensuring they focus. The well-qualified childminder provides good-quality teaching, resulting in children making good progress in their learning. The childminder and parents regularly discuss children's achievements and agree how to move them on in their learning.

good
Children's behaviour is very good because the childminder creates a calm atmosphere that fosters a strong sense of emotional well-being. Children are happy in the childminder's care. She is a good role model who speaks gently to the children, resulting in them developing caring attitudes towards others. Children's good health is effectively promoted due to freshly-cooked, balanced meals and lots of physical play. The daily routine includes opportunities for children to rest or sleep, so that they are refreshed for subsequent play activities. The childminder regularly takes children to groups, ensuring they develop the confidence to mix with others. Children are developing good self-care skills in preparation for the next stage in their learning. Children learn about road safety and they know why the green man is at the crossing.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder looks at activities to see if they meet children's needs, and whether the planning and assessment are of a high standard. The childminder ensures children have an awareness of diversity because she provides a selection of resources for that purpose. However, children's learning is limited because, for example, these resources do not fully reflect the full extent of diversity within society. The childminder takes advantage of meetings with other professionals to discuss practice issues, and she attends a range of courses. As a result, the childminder has a well-developed understanding of how to promote children's good behaviour. All recommendations from the last inspection have been effectively addressed. The childminder works well with other providers where children attend. This means that children benefit from continuity in their learning.
