This provision is good
The childminder effectively supports children in preparation for attending nursery or school. She teaches children to be independent, confident and supports them well in developing good social skills. The childminder promotes children's acquisition of language and communication skills very well. She interacts with children effectively and encourages them to use and say new words correctly as they play. The childminder understands how children learn through play. She successfully helps children to make good progress in their learning, by focusing on children's individual interests. The childminder is calm and consistent in her approach. She discusses and agrees strategies with parents to manage children's behaviour. This consistency helps to teach children the difference between right and wrong. The childminder has robust safeguarding procedures in place, which she rigorously implements. All visitors are closely monitored, risk assessments are thorough and

children are kept safe and secure at all times.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder keeps the television on for large parts of the day. This has a tendency to distract children, reducing their levels of concentration. There are further opportunities to enhance play areas with a wider range of natural resources to extend children's learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

help children to further concentrate and focus attention on their play, by minimising visual and sound distractions enhance children's imaginary, physical and sensory experiences even further, for example, by introducing real objects, such as fruit and vegetables into the role play area.

Inspection activities
The inspector talked with children and observed activities in the rooms used and looked at the outdoor environment. The inspector held discussions and conducted a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability and the qualifications of the childminder. The inspector viewed a wide range of documentation, including relevant policies and procedures, children's assessment files, visitor records, risk assessments and the childminders self-evaluation form. The childminder looked at letters from parents and carers, taking their views into account.

who attend. This is good
The childminder provides a good range of activities and experiences for children. She motivates children and challenges them appropriately, so that they make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder gathers information from parents, which help her to establish starting points for children. Subsequent observations and assessments are shared with parents and other professionals, as necessary. As a result, any gaps in children's learning and development are quickly identified and appropriate support sought, as needed. Children thoroughly enjoy taking photographs with the digital camera. The childminder shows children how much she values their contributions by displaying the printed images. The childminder teaches babies to sing, clap hands and wave, making learning fun. She effectively supports them in developing their physical skills, by providing lots of opportunities for them to crawl and toddle around the furniture.

who attend. This is good
Older children enjoy learning about shape and colour as they play with the cars and build with the boxes. However, children sometimes lose focus and concentration because they are distracted by the television.

good
Children show how secure they feel with the childminder as they freely move around the setting. Babies happily snuggle in when they get sleepy and older children listen well and respond to any requests. This shows how children have established emotional attachments and positive relationships with the childminder. The childminder keeps children safe and ensures that she works with parents to establish and maintain care routines. Children demonstrate how relaxed they are with the routines. They are confident and self- motivated, happily sitting down for their snack. Children are taught how to look after themselves through effective hygiene practices, such as hand-washing. The childminder provides activities that teach children about making healthy food choices. For example, she includes pretend apples and oranges in the role-play area. Children enjoy counting and sorting the fruit. However, the fruit is not realistic in weight or texture, which does not

provision is good
The childminder understands her responsibilities in meeting the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She demonstrates her knowledge of what to do should she have a concern over a child's welfare. Children's progress in learning and development is closely monitored through effective tracking. The childminder continually self-reflects, adapting her paperwork and practice, as necessary. The childminder communicates and works effectively with others so that there is continuity in children's learning. She consults with local authority advisers, nursery staff and other childminders, sharing ideas and good practice. The childminder is well qualified and is very keen to continue developing her skills. This is evident as she plans a child-centred environment, values and respects all children and families and meets the needs of all the children.
