This provision is good
Children feel safe in this warm and welcoming childminding setting. They build trusting relationships with the childminder and develop a good sense of belonging. Observation and assessment of children's learning is used effectively, to identify where children are in their learning and what the childminder needs to do next to support their continuing progress. As a result, children make good progress. The childminder demonstrates exceptionally friendly and trusting relationships with parents. She respects them as their child's key educator and effectively supports them to remain actively involved in their children's learning. The childminder promotes safeguarding effectively. She understands her responsibilities with regard to child protection and has attended necessary training, to ensure that she knows how to report concerns. The childminder monitors the quality of her childminding provision and takes into

account the views of parents and children. She is committed to continuous improvement and a good-quality care and learning experience for all children.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is less focused on providing babies with natural resources to explore, investigate and examine, by introducing 'treasure baskets' including items, such as wooden spoons, sponges and pine cones.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the lounge. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at records of children's learning and a selection of policies and records. The inspector checked the evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder and household members, the provider's self-evaluation form and improvement plan. The inspector spoke to a parent. The inspector took account of written testimonials from parents.

who attend. This is good
The childminder works well with parents to establish children's starting points when they begin at the childminding setting. This enables her to immediately plan activities that children enjoy and support their continuing developmental progress. She continues to observe children as they play and uses her observations well, to plan and provide interesting and challenging activities. The quality of teaching and learning is consistently good. As a result, children develop the skills necessary to be ready for school. The childminder supports children's language and communication skills well. She responds to the babbles and gestures of babies, holding 'conversations' in response to babies' vocalisations. She encourages them in their play, providing resources that babies enjoy exploring and encourages them to roll over onto their tummy to reach and stretch. However, the resources currently available to babies are made up of commercially bought,

plastic toys. The childminder has not introduced treasure baskets of natural resources to promote babies' curiosity and natural desire to investigate and think.

good
The childminder provides an environment that is warm and welcoming. She treats children with positive regard. Children build warm and trusting relationships with her, readily snuggling in for cuddles. The childminder talks to parents about established routines for sleeping and feeding. She follows these, to promote continuity of care and support children's sense of belonging. The childminder provides children with a varied range of age-appropriate toys, which supports their interests. Toys are stored to enable children to access them independently. As a result, children develop independence and the confidence to embrace new experiences. The childminder carries out risk assessments, and takes steps to minimise hazards. She carries out emergency evacuation practises with the children, to ensure that they know what to do to keep themselves safe in the event of a fire. The childminder maintains mandatory training, such as paediatric first-aid, to

provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibilities to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She is committed to continuous improvement. Through the careful evaluation of her practice, and monitoring of the quality of teaching and learning, the childminder ensures that all children receive good-quality care and learning experiences. The childminder tracks children's progress, to ensure they are making good progress towards the early learning goals and shares her findings with parents. Parents are actively encouraged to remain engaged in their children's learning. Written testimonials from parents confirm the high regard that they have for the childminder and find her professional, caring and trustworthy. They state that they are 'thrilled with the care and lovely family environment' that children experience and would strongly recommend the childminder to others.
