This provision is good
Children form a strong bond with the childminder and build good relationships with other children. They receive consistent and positive interaction from the childminder that helps them develop good social skills. Children benefit from the discussions they have with the childminder as they play. This extends their language development and gives them confidence in communicating their needs and ideas, for example, when solving problems. Children feel a strong sense of belonging and learn to value and respect diversity. The childminder makes photographic books about children and their families, which are easily accessible alongside a wide range of other books. The childminder has a very confident understanding of safeguarding procedures, which helps her to keep children safe. She reviews her policies regularly in line with regulations and requirements, and adheres to these in practice. The childminder is committed to improving her practice through attending training and

increasing her knowledge and skills. She reflects on her own provision and seeks feedback from parents. This helps her to make improvements that impact positively on outcomes for children, such as improving toy storage to enable independent choice.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide parents with enough information about children's progress and development to keep them fully involved in children's learning. The toys children access on a daily basis are mainly plastic and commercially produced. This limits opportunities for them to explore and investigate different materials and resources to extend their understanding of the world around them.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation and a sample of other documentation, including policies and procedures. The inspector took account of the written views of parents and the provider's self- evaluation.

who attend. This is good
Children are happy and busy in their play. The childminder provides a good range of activities for children, adapting these to suit their individual needs. The childminder introduced children to shapes, colours and sizes as they used the electronic shape sorter. This extended their vocabulary and encouraged their language and communication skills as they compared and discussed the different shapes. The childminder has a good selection of age-appropriate toys and resources that are easily accessible. This encourages children to make choices, increasing their independence. However, the childminder does not offer children frequent access to a wide enough range of natural or everyday objects. The childminder has effective systems in place to monitor children's progress. She plans activities that reflect children's interests and provide appropriate challenge to help narrow any gaps in their learning. This helps all children to make good progress. The childminder

engages in discussions with parents daily and also uses a diary to record and share information about children's routines and care needs. However, she does not regularly share her more detailed records of children's progress with parents, or make them aware of the next steps in children's learning. This means that parents are not fully encouraged to provide further support for children's learning at home.

good
Children are relaxed and comfortable in the childminder's home due to effective settling-in arrangements. They learn to take turns as they play games, as the childminder offers lots of praise and encouragement. This helps to prepare children for the next stage in their learning. The childminder encourages children to follow positive hygiene routines, so they learn how to keep themselves healthy. The childminder completes ongoing risk assessments, which help her to identify and address any safety issues. She supervises children well at all times, to help keep them safe. She teaches children about safety as she involves them all in practising the emergency evacuation procedures. Children are involved in outdoor activities daily. This includes playing in the childminder's garden, visiting local play areas and attractions, and trips to the beach. This supports their good health as they engage in activities in the fresh air, and involves them in the local community.

provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. She makes sure that parents and visitors to her home are aware of her policies and procedures to help keep children safe. She links with other early years settings to share information to provide consistent support for children's care and learning needs.
