The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder provides a friendly welcome, which helps children feel confident and secure. They develop good relationships with the childminder, who meets their physical needs well and safeguards them effectively.  The childminder has strong partnerships with parents. She keeps parents well informed of their children's activities and progress, and improves her provision by acting on ideas suggested by them.  The childminder provides a good, varied programme of outdoor activities in the local community that broadens children's experiences and provides them with plenty of fresh air and exercise.  The childminder has developed good links with other nurseries and schools that children also attend. These have enabled her to extend her knowledge of the children, which helps them achieve the next steps in their learning and make good progress.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although the childminder is able to identify her professional development needs through her evaluation methods, she does not always act on these promptly to try to raise the provision to a very high quality.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make sure that training needs identified through evaluation are acted on promptly, with particular reference to gaining knowledge of how to help children learn about people and their differences in the programme for understanding the world.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector sampled relevant documents.  The inspector spoke to parents and read parent feedback.  The inspector had a tour of the premises.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times.  The inspector observed children playing, both indoors and outdoors, and observed how the childminder interacted with them.

who attend. This is good

The childminder provides a range of activities that promote children's learning and development well. Children are fully engaged in the activities and enjoy choosing what they wish to do. This promotes their confidence and independence and means that they like what they do. The childminder takes the children outside daily to parks where they take part in physical play and learn to socialise with others. All children make good progress in their development. This is because the childminder has a good knowledge of how children learn and uses this knowledge to make accurate observations and assessment that aid learning. The childminder encourages children to think and solve problems during play, such as when trying to fill pasta containers and put the lids on. Children gain the skills they need for their next stage in learning.

p.3

good

Children settle well because the childminder has a good relationship with them and their families, and knows the children very well. Good routines are established and children know what to expect, which helps them to feel secure and at home. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder sets clear boundaries and instils good manners. The childminder makes good use of the large well-resourced outdoor area. Using this helps children to develop positive attitudes to physical exercise. Children are encouraged to take responsibility for managing their personal hygiene. For example, they wash their hands capably after outdoor play.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of her role and implements requirements to a good standard. She has attended various training courses to ensure that her knowledge is current. For example, the childminder recently attended a behaviour management course, which has helped her manage varying behaviour. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection and knows the steps to follow should she have concerns about a child. The childminder evaluates her practice accurately and actively seeks the views of children and parents. However, although she recognised a weaknessin her programme for understanding the world and teaching children about how people differ, some time ago, she has not acted on it. This means that she does not do enough to lift the quality of her provision. Nevertheless, the childminder has acted on recommendations set at the previous inspection; for example, she has improved sensory experiences for

children. The childminder seeks advice from outside organisations when necessary to ensure all children make good progress while in her care.
