p.1
This provision is good
The childminder is meeting the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements to safeguard children. However, she is not meeting the Childcare Register requirements in relation to keeping a written statement of safeguarding procedures and sharing this with parents. Teaching is good. The childminder uses effective questioning techniques to encourage children to think for themselves. Children are given time to explore and investigate, which promotes their critical thinking skills. The childminder has strong and caring relationships with the children. She is sensitive to their needs and, as a result, they settle well and are happy in her home. The parents and childminder talk daily about the children's learning. As a result, parents are able to continue supporting their children's learning at home. The childminder regularly organises meetings with other childminders where they share good practice ideas. She attends training to ensure that she is knowledgeable about

The inspector checked proof of the suitability of adults living in the household.

who attend. This is good
The childminder makes careful observations of children as they play. She notes when they achieve something new and then plans well to extend their learning. As a result, children stay engaged in their learning and progress well. She celebrates these achievements positively with praise and by clapping hands. As a result, children join in with the clapping and show they are proud of themselves. They develop a positive attitude to learning and the confidence to try new things. This prepares them for their next steps in learning, including school. Children have opportunities to develop their physical strength and coordination as they play outside on a good range of physical play resources. However, although learning opportunities indoors are good, the childminder does not fully extend opportunities for children to explore print or numbers outside.

good
Children are able to move safely around the house because the childminder has assessed risks effectively. Toys are stored at low level, and are developmental appropriate. As a result, children are able to make independent choices from interesting resources, so promote their own learning. The childminder has a strong commitment to healthy eating, and has attended training to help her establish healthy eating routines in her home. Children see and enjoy a wide variety of healthy foods. For example, the childminder grows lemons in the playroom and has fresh fruit readily available in the kitchen. As a result, children are beginning to form healthy habits and attitudes to keeping healthy. The childminder understands the importance of helping children to be ready for school. She helps them to develop their independence skills, for example, as they take off their coats and hang them up. She chats to children about when they are sad and acknowledges their

feelings. This helps them to be emotionally prepared for school and other changes in their lives.

provision is good
The childminder has a good knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. She understands her safeguarding responsibilities and knows what steps to take if she has any concerns about a child in her care. She reflects on her practice and uses feedback from the children to develop her resources. She talks with parents about what children are interested in at home and uses these ideas to develop opportunities at her setting. The childminder tracks the children's development. As a result, she meets their learning and development needs well.
