p.1

This provision is good

 Children are provided with stimulating and enjoyable first-hand learning experiences by the childminder who has an effective understanding of how children learn. Therefore, children's individual learning and development needs are very well met and they make good progress.  The childminder uses a variety of effective teaching strategies and questioning techniques to develop children's early communication skills.  The childminder is an excellent role model to children. Children behave exceptionally well and use good manners, which effectively supports them in their move on to school.  Children are very happy and well settled. This is a result of robust settling-in procedures and exceptionally caring relationships provided by the childminder.  Highly effective partnership working with parents and other providers results in the constant exchange of detailed information, supporting the promotion of children's

individual care.  The childminder completes a self-evaluation form. This helps to drive improvements in the setting and further enhances good opportunities for children to develop.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder uses good questioning skills, but does not always give children sufficient time to answer or to think through their responses.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 strengthen children's already good critical-thinking skills, for example, by giving children more time to process their thoughts and respond to questions.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the children's play, including adult-led and child-initiated activities.  The inspector looked at children's records, safeguarding procedures and a variety of other documentation.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector took account of the views of parents from feedback the childminder had gathered.

who attend. This is good

Teaching is good. The childminder provides children with a wide range of challenging opportunities, which are planned around their individual developmental needs and interests. She closely observes children and knows their likes, dislikes and what they can already do. The childminder completes regular assessments of children to monitor their progress across the seven areas of learning and identify what they need to learn next. As a result, all children make good progress, which helps them gain the skills needed to be ready for school. Children's understanding of shape, space and measure is developed when using jugs, bottles and funnels in the water tray. The childminder asks children open-ended questions to extend their knowledge. However, she does not always give children sufficient time to answer, or to think through their responses. Children thrive as they choose whether to play indoors or outside with the stimulating toys and natural

opportunities provided. For example, they explore natural and every day items, such as, chains, ribbons and brushes, which stimulate their imagination and curiosity. Their exploration and investigation skills are promoted when they dig in the nature area for worms and spiders. All these activities mean children are absorbed and engaged in purposeful play.

outstanding

Children form exceptionally strong bonds and secure emotional attachments with the childminder because she knows them extremely well. She is an excellent role model because she treats children with the upmost respect, which helps them to gain an excellent sense of well-being and belonging. These positive attachments are further enriched by excellent partnerships with parents. The childminder has developed highly effective relationships with local schools and nurseries to support children exceptionally well for the emotional changes ahead. The childminder provides an excellent range of nutritious home-cooked healthy meals and snacks for the children. During this time, children enjoy sitting together and consequently, develop very good independence and social skills. The indoor and outdoor environment is exceptionally well organised by the childminder and is child-orientated. Children chose where to play, which effectively

promotes their physical skills and supports children to be active learners.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder implements clear processes and policies to support the effective delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The childminder clearly understands how to safeguard and protect children from harm. She demonstrates sound understanding of the indicators that would cause concern and the procedures to follow in order to promote the welfare of the children. This results in children's health and safety being protected at all times. The well-qualified childminder is committed to developing her good-quality provision and attends relevant training to continually effectively develop her knowledge and skills. Consequently, children make good progress in their learning and development.
