The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 Staff act as good role models. They supervise children well and guide them throughout the daily routine, which promotes their well-being and independence.  Children develop good communication and social skills because staff are skilful communicators and listen carefully to children.  Managers and staff ensure that safeguarding children takes a high priority. Staff clearly understand what to do should they have concerns about children's welfare. The setting is safe and secure. Staff implement effective risk assessments and policies.  The quality of teaching is good. Staff plan a variety of interesting activities that motivate children, engage their interests and enhance their continued learning.  The provider and manager have a secure understanding of the areas of learning. This enables them to accurately monitor staff practice, children's progress and the quality of planning and assessments.  Staff share a good range of information with parents, who are happy with the service

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Staff do not always encourage children's self-care skills to promote their understanding of good eating habits and by providing suitable cutlery at mealtimes.  Staff do not provide a broad and varied range of natural materials for young children to explore and interest them in the indoor and outdoor environments.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 encourage children's self-care skills by providing cutlery that is appropriate for their age and stage of development. Ensure that they eat snacks sitting down to support learning about good eating habits  develop further the range of natural resources for younger children to use in a variety of ways to maintain interest, investigate and provide further challenge within the indoor and outdoor environments.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector carried out observations of staff interactions with the children in the three inside rooms and the outside play area.  The inspector carried out a joint observation of practice with the manager.  The inspector spoke to the provider, manager and staff regarding recent training, evaluation methods, activity planning and safeguarding practice.  The inspector sampled policies, procedures and documents, including safeguarding, complaints and behaviour management, and information gathered when a child starts at the setting.  The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day of the inspection.

who attend. This is good

Staff provide a good balance of adult-initiated and child-led activities that promote children's development in all areas of learning. Consequently, children confidently make good progress in relation to their starting points. They are ready for the next stages in their learning and preparing well for school. Staff gain information from parents about children's starting points and individual needs. As a result, staff understand and meet children's care and learning needs effectively. Babies have good opportunities to develop their physical skills. They have ample space to crawl and low furniture to aid them when learning to walk. Staff encourage children to count and learn about shapes and colours during play activities. Children have good access to the garden for physical challenges. They go on regular outings to parks, which help them to learn about the world around them. Staff share daily information about children's progress with parents.

p.3

good

Staff praise children appropriately throughout the day. They provide clear guidance for children on acceptable behaviour. As a result, children are developing good manners and they behave well. Staff encourage children's independence and self-help skills as they tend to their own personal care needs. The staff provide planned activities with learning outcomes. These contribute to the children's readiness for moving on to other settings and school. Children form secure attachments with their allotted key person, which promotes their emotional well-being. Staff promote children's health as they teach them about keeping safe and living healthily as they play.

p.3

provision is good

Management and staff implement the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage well. The team reflects on the views of children, parents, staff and other professionals when evaluating their service. Staff supervisions focus on continual professional development. Management encourages staff to attend training and develop their qualifications. This leads to improved outcomes for children. For example, methods from a behaviour management course were shared with staff and parents. Staff now give children time to discuss their actions and understand why some behaviours are not appropriate. Parents comment on the positive impact this has had at home and at nursery. Staff liaise with other professionals and settings, where relevant, to support and encourage children's ongoing progress. Previous inspection recommendations are in place demonstrating a commitment to providing good-quality childcare.
