p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. This enables her to plan activities that suit children's current interests and developmental needs.  The childminder is committed to keeping children safe and implements a robust safeguarding policy. Therefore, she effectively promotes children's welfare needs.  The childminder has a robust system for self-evaluation and includes the views of parents and children. This helps her monitor the quality of the setting and make plans to improve her practice.  The childminder attends training updates, and applies her knowledge and skills well to develop her practice. As a result, children are making good progress.  Children have developed secure bonds with the childminder because she provides a caring and loving environment. This enables children to develop confidence and a desire to learn.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always extend opportunities for children to develop their early reading and writing skills by enabling them to fully express their ideas and thoughts during everyday activities.  The childminder does not consistently provide opportunities for children to fully develop their skills in critical thinking, for instance, through sorting and grouping different objects. Therefore, she does not fully promote their mathematical development in this respect.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

who attend. This is good

The quality of teaching and learning is good because the childminder has a secure understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She has developed robust systems for observation and assessment and plans specific activities to meet children's needs. For example, children made a shop counter with real carrots and potatoes. The childminder developed their sensory awareness by encouraging them to touch and feel the ingredients. She also promoted their communication and language development by using skilful questioning. As a result, children experience a rich learning environment overall. The childminder works in partnership with parents to obtain children's starting points on entry. She develops their skills further through carefully planned activities that promote their next steps in learning. Therefore, she effectively prepares children for their future learning.

p.3

good

The childminder offers a warm and nurturing environment where children feel secure and confident. As a result, children are motivated to learn through play. The childminder promotes children's awareness of healthy eating by providing nutritious home-cooked meals. Children develop their independence by helping to prepare the table and serve themselves. The childminder encourages children to follow good hygiene practices and to develop healthy lifestyles. Children enjoy playing with a wide range of resources indoors and outdoors that they choose independently. The childminder plans very exciting outings and daily visits which help to provide children with daily exercise. The childminder uses the skills she has acquired during positive behaviour training, to effectively reinforce her expectations to children. She also works with parents to provide continuity in this respect.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has developed a robust system for self-evaluation which she uses well to evaluate her practice and make effective plans for improvement. The childminder has a good knowledge of safeguarding. Furthermore, she attends training to support her good practice to ensure her skills are up to date and to meet the needs of all children. The childminder has a secure understanding of children's stages of development and is able to identify any gaps in their learning through careful observations. She has good links with the other professionals and know how to access additional support if she needs to. Therefore, she improves outcomes for all children effectively.
