This provision is outstanding
Partnerships with parents are well developed and there are outstanding systems for sharing information that contribute to consistency of care for their children. The childminder demonstrates excellent teaching skills. There is an effective focus on extending children's learning, both indoors and outdoors, and all children are respected and valued as individuals. The childminder provides an excellent variety of resources and activities that challenge children's abilities. This ensures children thoroughly enjoy their time in the childminder's care. They quickly develop positive attitudes to learning and are eager to participate in activities. Children's confidence and sense of well-being is strong; there is a well-developed key- person system in place and children form secure emotional attachments with the childminder. Children of all ages play well together. Older children support younger children,

enabling them to join in with their games and feel a part of the setting. The childminder continually seeks the views of children and parents about the care, teaching and learning provided. This effectively ensures that care for each child is effective and continually meets all children's needs. Excellent communication with other professionals involved in the children's lives enables important information to be shared, keeping all actively informed of progress.

who attend. This is outstanding
The quality of teaching is outstanding. The childminder has an excellent understanding of the areas of learning. He records children's individual achievements and developments on a monthly news sheet, which is shared with parents. The childminder prepares the environment to encourage children to explore and develop their own interests in discovering new things. Children have the choice of rooms and opportunities to select their own equipment. This enables them to make good progress and enhance the learning that takes place at school. For example, children become deeply involved in mixing different coloured paints and using a colour-developing educational toy. They eagerly seek out materials to build their own stand to display their mixtures. This adds depth to their enjoyment and captures children's imagination, therefore extending their learning. At the start of the placement, the childminder obtains from parents information about each

child's favourite activities and interests. This information is then used to settle children in to the setting and to support their after school care.

outstanding
The childminder creates a welcoming and exceptionally well-resourced environment that fosters children's sense of belonging. The childminder deploys himself well and knows which area of the setting he is responsible for supervising. Any accidents are handled appropriately. The childminder holds a paediatric first-aid qualification. Children's confidence and self-esteem is raised because the childminder praise them for their efforts and achievements. Children develop an awareness of safety and how to stay safe. For example, children are taught road-safety awareness when walking to the childminder's home, and are helped to use the play equipment in the garden area safely. However, the childminder recognises that the ongoing development of the excellent outdoor provision will provide children with further opportunities to build on their knowledge and skills. Outdoor play provides opportunities for physical activities, which the children have huge

enthusiasm for and enjoy on a daily basis. Mealtimes are used to promote healthy eating. Children discuss healthy foods and use picture cards to choose foods they would like to eat. This helps the childminder to plan future meals and enhances children's awareness of healthy eating.

provision is outstanding
The childminder has a level 3 childcare qualification. He is proactive in his approach to continually enhancing his knowledge and skills. This is reflected in the high-quality provision. He works cohesively with his co-childminder, which ensures children play in a safe, stimulating environment, encouraging their curiosity. Safeguarding children is paramount and the childminder has an excellent understanding of his role and responsibilities in protecting children in his care. Reflective practice, self-evaluation and informed discussion with his co-childminder clearly identify the provision's strengths and priorities for development.
