p.1
This provision is good
The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding about how children learn and develop. Teaching is effective because she plays alongside children and models positive behaviour. The childminder accurately observes and monitors children's progress. She quickly identifies and closes any emerging gaps in their learning and development. Children form good relationships with the childminder. This means children's individual needs are well met and children form strong attachments with the childminder. The childminder forms positive relationships with parents. This enables them to play an active part in their child's learning. She keeps parents well informed and works closely with them to meet children's needs. The childminder is committed to improvement. She evaluates the quality of her provision, taking into account the views of parents, children and other childminders.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always provide enough access to open ended resources during activities, to challenge children and fully extend their learning experiences. The childminder does not always build on opportunities for children to develop their own narratives and explanations by connecting ideas or events.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

develop further the use of open-ended resources to provide more challenge for children, to ensure consistently high quality learning experiences build on opportunities for children to recall and relive past experiences, to support them in connecting ideas or events.

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed all areas of the childminder's home that are used for childminding. The inspector observed children engaged in a variety of activities, inside and outdoors. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures, and the childminder's self-evaluation form. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's training, and the suitability of all adults in the household. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.

who attend. This is good
The childminder plans a variety of activities which cover the seven areas of learning. She uses information from parents, alongside her own observations, to assess children's skills. As a result, children make good progress in their learning. For example, as the children manipulate dough to make buns, the childminder encourages them to count the buns each time they make one more. Children then understand that the number increases whenever another one is added. These skills prepare children for the next stage of their learning. The childminder encourages children to develop their speech and language skills because she talks to them during play and models effective language while sharing books. However, when children talk about events they have experienced or enjoyed, the childminder and her assistants do not always maximise these opportunities to fully extend children's learning. Resources are well organised and easily accessible. However, children

are not consistently able to use resources in a flexible way, to provide even more interest and greater challenge for more able children.

good
Children are well behaved and settled in the childminder's home. This is because she knows the children well and finds out about their personalities and preferences before they start. Children have a positive relationship with the childminder, which promotes their emotional well-being. Children are active, they engage in physical play in the garden and during walks in the community. They grow vegetables in the garden and feed the birds which teaches them about the natural world around them. The childminder provides meals that meet children's dietary requirements and promote healthy lifestyles. She provides parents with details of the ingredients of meals so that they are aware of possible allergens. This helps to keep children safe. Children benefit from weekly trips to playgroup. This develops their social skills and language. The childminder accompanies children on transition visits to school and provides detailed information about their

achievements. This prepares them emotionally for their move on to school.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder has a good knowledge of the learning and development requirements, and understands her responsibility for safeguarding children. Children's safety is a priority in the setting. The childminder completes regular risk assessments and has well- documented policies and procedures in place. The childminder and her assistants keep their skills up to date by attending training, such as paediatric first aid and food hygiene. This results in children's health and safety being protected at all times. The childminder observes the practice of the assistants in the setting. Staff meetings support the assistants well, to ensure children's needs are met. The childminder works effectively with other professionals, to promote continuity of care and learning for children.
