This inspection
The focus of this inspection is to assess the effectiveness, progress and experiences of young people since the most recent full inspection. Young people continue to experience placement stability and receive a quality of care that promotes improved outcomes. They are making positive progress in their education, health, friendships and maturity. Staff place the safety and welfare of young people at the forefront of their practice. A member of staff commented ‘we are a very proactive team, motivated and passionate about young people achieving the best outcomes.′ A placing social worker said ‘the staff have provided consistency and positive regard for (young people).’
p.2
This inspection
Young people move to the home with risk-taking behaviours, such as going missing from home and criminality. The staff provide consistent boundaries and structure that young people respond to and as a result, they are choosing to adopt better routines and developing social relationships. Staff spend time with young people helping them to understand how their behaviours impact on their future life chances. An independent reviewing officer commented that their young person's behaviour has completely turned around and they are now taking risks as part of normal growing up. A young person said ‘I'm good now…I don't runaway away anymore.′
p.2
This inspection
All young people are in full time education or training. One young person is currently working towards their GCSEs and is receiving extra tuition to support them. The young person enjoyed a work experience placement as an information technician, and recently had a college and university taster day. This empowers young people to make effective decisions about their future employment and further education. A young person who was struggling to engage in education at the time of the last inspection has made good progress. They are now attending a construction course one day a week and working towards a BTEC level 1 qualification. They also attended a course through the Prince's Trust which provides disengaged young 3 of 5 people the opportunity to re-engage. Consequently, their confidence, motivation and social skills have improved as a result of attending this programme. Staff work hard to ensure young people overcome their difficulties so they reach their full potential.
p.2
This inspection
Young people thrive in an environment that promotes both their physical and emotional needs. They have access to a range of health services including psychological support. Healthy eating and exercise are well promoted. They are encouraged and supported to prepare and cook food which assists them to gain an understanding of what constitutes a healthy diet. Menus demonstrate that young people are including more fruit, salad and vegetables into their diet. They participate in activities which provide social interactions and exercise; showing they have a good understanding about making healthy lifestyle choices.
p.3
This inspection
One young person said they feel safe in the home. All staff work hard to promote the safety of young people. Their safety is further promoted because they have completed work on how to keep themselves safe when using the internet and social media. Staff have also received training to ensure their skills and knowledge are up- to-date. This ensures young people and staff are aware of good e-safety practice.
p.3
This inspection
The home continues to demonstrate capacity for continued improvement. The manager continues to provide effective and efficient leadership. She has a clear understanding of the strengths of the service and the areas for development. She works hard to secure improvements in practice and outcome for all young people. Consequently, young people continue to make good progress across all aspects of their lives. The manager and staff work collaboratively with other agencies and professionals to ensure the needs of young people are well met.
p.3
This inspection
Young people benefit from a home that is well maintained and decorated. All young people are consulted about choices of décor and furnishings within the home. There is plan to update some parts of the home, for example the kitchen. The flooring in the staff office is very worn and is as a potential hazard. However, this is not currently impacting on the welfare and safety of young people. A young person gave the home ‘8 out of 10’; they said it would be 10 if it was nearer to their home town. 4 of 5
