p.2

This inspection

This home was judged good at the last full inspection. At this interim inspection Ofsted judge that it has sustained effectiveness .

p.2

This inspection

The Registered Manager left their post in February 2015. The home is being over seen by an acting manager whilst the recruitment process concludes. He holds a level 3 childcare qualification and is currently undertaking their level 5 in management. He has been the team leader at the home since it opened. Staff work well as a team.

p.2

This inspection

The home has taken steps to address the issues from the last inspection. Young people's risk assessments are updated on a regular basis to ensure they contain the most current information. However some relating to missing from care, self-harm and the homes location risk assessments are not sufficiently detailed. This means valuable information, such as potential problematic areas in the community or to notify transport police that a young person is missing are not captured within the documentation. This may result in a delay in action being taken to support young people's health, safety and well-being.

p.2

This inspection

Young people enjoy a wide range of self-chosen activities. They particularly enjoy going to watch motorcycle racing and stock car rallies. Some enjoy the opportunities to spend time with their partners and visiting friends in the local area. There is sufficient staff available to take young people on their chosen activities. The homes computer has been replaced and this means young people have access to the internet for assistance with education and also appropriate use of electronic mail.

p.2

This inspection

Work has been undertaken to redecorate some areas of the home. Young people have been involved in choosing the colour schemes. Staff said the young people decided on where the new settees should be placed. This was to give them the best possible view of the television and games console. The flooring in the dining room and spare bedroom is chipped and is lifting in some areas. This is detracting from the homely environment staff are striving to maintain. 3 of 6 Records and documentation are generally well maintained. Young people’s health care plans are in place. These are not sufficiently detailed with regards to their ongoing medical needs, such as asthma and issues around self-harm. Consequently, staff may not be fully aware of how to support some young people's health care needs.

p.2

This inspection

Ofsted has not been notified of a significant event involving a member of staff, this was an oversight and a notification is now being forwarded to Ofsted. The acting manager has only been in a post a few weeks and said he is to use his monthly monitoring and that of the independent person to identify any shortfalls. Monitoring by the independent person is robust and provides clear information as to what the home does well and the areas for improvement.

p.3

This inspection

Young people say they are happy here. They have good opportunities to meet with their families and other people who are important to them. They are looking forward to planning a holiday abroad with staff and laugh as they tell visitors some of their suggestions of where they would like to go. Staff work well with the families of young people's friends to keep them safe when away from home. This includes making arrangements for young people to stay overnight at their friends. This means young people enjoy the same opportunities as any other teenager.

p.3

This inspection

One young person said 'I am happy here it’s much better than the other homes I have been in. I get on well with the staff because we have a laugh.' They are also more able to reflect upon past experiences. They said that they are better behaved now that another young person has left as they 'wound each other up, but in a good way.' Another young person said, 'I take a while to get use to people and everything is sound. X is the best member of staff and X (young person) is great.'

p.3

This inspection

Both young people said they felt safe here and felt confident to talk to staff. Young people are increasing on confidence in how to keep themselves safe when accessing online social networks. They are aware of the dangers of sending and receiving inappropriate messages and pictures. They said bullying is not an issue for them in the home, but have experienced this when outside. They said they felt confident to manage this and know they can talk to staff about this if it became an issue for them.

p.3

This inspection

Young people are being supported to learn a variety of independence skills which will enable them to move on into adult hood. A young person said that they did not like to go shopping on their own. So staff have agreed for them to plan the Sunday lunch and they will assist them with the shopping. Young people are confident to travel independently to visit friends and family. 4 of 6
