The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The quality of teaching is good throughout the nursery. Consequently, all children are making good progress from their starting points towards the early learning goals.  Staff have a good knowledge and understanding of their role and responsibility with regard to protecting children in their care from abuse and neglect. This ensures that safeguarding requirements are met to promote the safety of children.  The thoughtful organisation of the outdoor environment and the varied range of resources encourage children to explore and investigate. This helps them to gain independence in their learning and prepares them well for their future move to school.  There are strong partnerships with parents, other professionals and schools. This ensures that children receive relevant support and successfully promotes a consistent approach to children's learning and development.  The manager continuously uses a variety of strategies to evaluate the provision. This

helps to drive improvement which benefits children and results in a service that is continually improving.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasionally, the staff do not fully maximise opportunities to develop children's early- writing skills.  Staff do not always use fully the information they gather about children's home language to support children to develop awareness of, and respect for, cultural and linguistic differences, for example by using key words.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance children's early writing skills, for example, by supporting children to write their own names when they have taken part in an activity  support further children who speak English as an additional language in the acquisition of communication and language skills by displaying and learning words to encourage children to feel valued and involved.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed all areas of the premises used by the children including the outdoor environment.  The inspector checked evidence of the suitability and qualifications of staff working with the children.  The inspector and nursery manager completed a joint observation.  The inspector sampled documentation and children's records.  The inspector held a meeting with the management team and spoke with the staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector took into account the views of parents and carers spoken to on the day of inspection.

p.2

who attend. This is good

Staff provide a wide selection of resources and activities around the rooms so that children have good opportunities to make their own choices in play. As a result, children are happy, enthusiastic and confident learners. Staff complete regular observations and assessments of children's progress to recognise their achievements and identify their next steps in learning. These observations are then used by staff to inform the weekly planning for each room. Children's progress is accurately assessed and any gaps in their learning are quickly identified, so that additional support may be implemented. Older children have access to everyday technology as they confidently use the computer, which develops their fine motor skills and coordination. Staff make good use of questioning to encourage children to be active learners, who think critically. However, children's early writing skills are not fully encouraged because on occasions staff miss opportunities to support older

children to write their own names. Children who speak English as an additional language are generally well supported in their growing communication and language skills in English. However, the staff are less confident in supporting children's home languages in the nursery. For example, although key words are obtained from parents, staff do not always make effective use of this information.

good

Children have daily outdoor activities, which promotes their physical well-being. Staff act as good role models, promoting the use of good manners and reminding children to share and take turns during their play. Staff encourage and motivate children by continuously offering praise for their achievements. As a result, children are confident and self- motivated because they feel supported. Effective key-person systems are in place, which encourage parents to share ongoing information to meet children's care needs and routines. Children are well supported with their move between the nursery rooms and on to the next stage in their learning at school. As a result children's emotional well-being is met well.

p.3

provision is good

The well-qualified staff team understand their responsibilities to implement the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Recruitment procedures are robust and ensure that staff are suitable for their roles. There is a strong focus on training and staff development and staff use their training well to shape practice and plan educational programmes. Staff are supported through regular staff meetings and supervisions to further their professional development. The recommendations following the last inspection have been successfully addressed, which shows a good capacity to improve. Staff ensure that parents are kept well informed of their children's progress, through daily discussions, termly reports and parents' evenings. Parents say they are happy with the information shared with them and with the progress that children make.
