Young people are safe and well cared for. They say that they like their home and feel that ‘staff are good’. They also speak very positively about the support that they receive from the Registered Manager. Social workers state that they are ‘really happy’ about the quality of care and outcomes enjoyed by young people.

p.2

This inspection

Two recommendations were made at the previous inspection. These have been fully addressed. The manager was asked to improve the recording of staff supervision. Records now better reflect the level of support provided to staff. This improves monitoring and quality assurance processes. It was also recommended that night time fire drills be conducted. Fire evacuation procedures are improved because this has been acted on.

p.2

This inspection

Young people make successful transitions into independent living arrangements. This is because the home very effectively prepares young people for adulthood. They are supported to learn a wide range of household management skills. This gives them a great deal of confidence in their ability to maintain their homes, manage their finances, and care for their own belongings. In addition, young people learn how to maintain a healthy lifestyle because they develop cooking skills and learn to manage their own medication safely.

p.2

This inspection

Safeguarding arrangements are strong. The home works very effectively with a range of specialist agencies, including the police and social care, to minimise risks when young people are vulnerable to abuse or exploitation. Social workers confirm that the home ‘couldn’t do more’ to promote the safety of young people. A young person describes the home as a ‘safe place’. Another young person says that, ‘I have no problems here’. The safety and well-being of young people is further promoted because there is no bullying in the home. 3 of 5 The Registered Manager has a proven track record in driving improvement. By appointing a deputy manager, he continues to improve the leadership of the home and ensures that staff are better supported to deliver high quality care. Since the last inspection he has also continued to refurbish the home. As a result, bedrooms, hallways and external areas are better presented. Young people say that they like

their bedrooms. Maintenance systems are effective. This means that young people live in a consistently pleasant and homely environment.

p.3

This inspection

Educational attendance and achievement is also better. Where young people have poor educational attendance prior to moving to the home, this improves markedly. When young people are disengaged from education, the home is good at working with schools to develop individually tailored support packages that prepare them for examinations. As a consequence of improved attendance young people are confident that they will gain qualifications and move into further education. Other young people are well supported to undertake apprenticeships. This means that they leave the home with realistic employment opportunities. 4 of 5
