This inspection
This home was judged good at the last full inspection. At this interim inspection Ofsted judge that it has sustained effectiveness .
p.2
This inspection
At the previous inspection in June 2014, the overall rating of this home was judged as good. There were no shortfalls identified requiring any requirements. Two recommendations were made. These were in respect of risk assessments. Young people's risk assessments are now accurately identifying areas of risk or vulnerability. Although the home’s fire risk assessment has been reviewed it still does not fully reflect current staff sleeping arrangements and the measures to be taken in the event of a fire. As a result, this recommendation has been remade.
p.2
This inspection
The Registered Manager continues to improve and develop the home environment and staff practice. Since the last inspection she has made significant improvements to the interior and exterior parts of the home. For instance, she has introduced a board displaying photographs of staff on duty so young people know who will be working with them at any given time. She has also cleared the garden to create a much brighter environment.
p.2
This inspection
Young people generally have positive experiences as a result of living in the home. They do not engage in risk-taking behaviours, such as, drinking alcohol and the misusing of drugs. Staff provide a good level of care to young people in sometimes very difficult and challenging circumstances. The home accommodates young people who are at high risk of going missing from care. Some young people have continued to run away and put themselves at risk from child sexual exploitation. When this has occurred this has been managed appropriately by the staff and managers of the home. Partnership working is good. The home’s Registered Manager and staff continue to work closely with police, placing authorities and safeguarding teams to try to ensure young people's safety.
p.2
This inspection
Although care planning is tailored to individual needs, young people's behaviour management plans do not clearly set out the specific strategies to reduce incidences 3 of 5 of negative behaviour. As a result, staff are not always fully aware of how to respond to a young person's challenging behaviour in the most effective way.
p.2
This inspection
Some young people make very good progress at the home. They regularly attend school and engage in activities in the local area. Young people's views are mixed about whether they enjoy living at the home. One young person who rated the home 9 out of 10 feels she is listened to and kept safe by staff. Placing social workers, parents and commissioners comment positively about the care and progress of young people.
p.3
This inspection
Effective transition planning enables young people to move to alternative placements in a positive way. Although this has not always been as planned as staff and the Registered Manager would have liked, staff endeavour to make the transition to new placements as smooth and easy as possible for young people. 4 of 5
