The service has well-established networks and relationships with a range of agencies and professionals who are involved in meeting the needs of young people. For example, staff work closely with teachers in support of attendance and attainment at school. There are regular team around the child meetings to ensure the progress and safety of the young people. There are very clear links to the clinical team within the organisation to ensure the emotional well-being of the young people is met. There are also close links with the local police. Young people continue to achieve positive outcomes within a safe and supportive environment. They benefit from individualised care packages where staff have a good knowledge and understanding of their needs. This ensures they provide tailored responses to young people. Staff engage appropriately to provide support and reassurances to help reduce young people’s anxieties and promote their welfare. For example, one young person struggled with a change in routine with education. This caused a level of anxiety which staff were fully understanding of and looked at alternative strategies and involved the young person in the discussions. 3 of 5 Safeguarding young people is a priority of the staff team and central to their practice. Young people are supported to keep safe. Sufficient levels of supervision both inside and outside of the home recognise their vulnerabilities. Staff understand their responsibilities and act within clear guidelines. This helps ensure young people

are protected. A new system of daily risk assessments has been introduced to monitor patterns of behaviour and these are beneficial in the daily handovers and help staff understand how to manage the behaviours effectively. The use of consequences and restraints in the home is minimal. Staff use distraction and other techniques to diffuse situations. Staff present as positive role models and implement the home’s behaviour management policy. The use of incentives is a positive management tool and one which the young people have helped to implement. This effectively promotes positive behaviour for young people.

p.3

This inspection

The Registered Manager regularly monitors all records kept by the home to ensure compliance with the home’s policies, identifying any concerns about specific incidents and themes and patterns. Action is taken to address any issues that are raised.
