This inspection
Excellent working relationships with other professionals means a range of resources are utilised to meet young people’s needs. These include the local drug and alcohol service, fire service and the nurse for looked after children. Young people are encouraged to, and do access, local facilities such as a gym and a football club. This helps them to establish links in the area and provides opportunity for fun and to keep fit.
p.2
This inspection
Positive relationships between young people and staff help young people reflect on their backgrounds and behaviour. The approach to behaviour management includes restorative work. This has offered young people the opportunity to mend relationships, move on positively with staff and has avoided the need for criminalising young people. One young person stated, ‘The home has helped me sort my head out. They support me and talk to me. I’m getting help. I make better choices. The staff are all good.’

This inspection
The Registered Manager has assessed and evaluated previously unidentified safeguarding concerns. These have been reported to relevant parties including police forces and social care professionals in placing authority and local authority areas. Individual work with young people is completed to develop their understanding of risk and keeping themselves safe. This shows that safeguarding concerns are taken seriously and there is a good understanding of risk assessment. However, significant incidents are not always notified to Ofsted. This means that not all parties, with an interest in the welfare of young people at the home, are appropriately informed about incidents that occur. 3 of 5 There is a clear policy in relation to new admissions to the home. The Registered Manager considers the needs of newly referred young people alongside the needs of those already living at the home to ensure the home can meet the needs of the

young people. Where possible, young people move into the home in a planned way which helps them to be more positive about the move and the changes they experience. Planning with young people and placing authorities helps to ensure that young people move on from the home with appropriate support.

This inspection
The Registered Manager continues to monitor the operation of the home which includes consultation with young people. Her reports evaluate the progress that young people are making and show she has an excellent knowledge and understanding of the young people. The Regulation 33 visitor routinely speaks to young people. This provides opportunity for young people to express their views, and if necessary, raise concerns, with someone independent of the home.
