who attend. This is good

Children are happy and content in the care of this warm and caring childminder. This is because she meets children's individual needs throughout the day. The childminder encourages children to recognise colours, shapes and teaches them to count while exploring with paint and play dough. This helps to promote children's mathematical skills. Children enjoy rolling, squeezing and flattening the dough, which enhances their manipulative skills and physical development. The childminder encourages children's imagination as they make marks with paint. She teaches children about the colours of trees, leaves and blossom, so that children gain an understanding of the world. The childminder teaches children about the letters and sounds that make up their names. However, she does not use all opportunities for children to practise writing their names and recognise letters when reading books.

p.3

good

The childminder provides opportunities for children of different ages to play together and build positive relationships. She reads stories to babies and children while they explore items in a treasure basket using their senses. She teaches older children how to be kind and caring with babies as they sing songs and giggle together. This promotes children's personal, social and emotional development. The childminder encourages healthy lifestyles by offering nutritious foods and by ensuring children wash their hands before meals, and after using the toilet. She further reinforces children's understanding of the importance of hygiene through books. Children have daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise and visit local parks to promote their physical development. Therefore, children are learning the necessary self-care skills in preparation for school.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She plans a wide range of adult-led and child-initiated activities to promote children's next stage of development. Consequently, children make good progress towards the early learning goals. The childminder has a good understanding of the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child. She adheres to the guidance of the Local Safeguarding Children Board to effectively promote children's safety and well-being. The childminder keeps the required documentation, including records of children's attendance, accidents and appropriate car insurance, which ensure children's safety. She has completed all actions raised at her last inspection. The childminder works with her co-childminder and parents to reflect on her practice and discuss challenging targets for the future. She uses effective plans to develop the quality of the provision further to improve outcomes for children.
