p.1

This provision is good

 Children are very content and happy within the childminder's care. They establish warm and trusting relationships with her.  The childminder has good partnerships with parents. She keeps them well informed about their children's care, learning and development. This effectively supports continuity of care and learning for children.  The childminder's quality of teaching is good. She supports babies' communication and language skills well. The childminder describes what they are doing as they play. This means that babies hear familiar words to aid their understanding.  The childminder has a clear drive for continuous improvement of her practice. As a result, learning outcomes for children continue to improve.  The childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding procedures. She has attended training to ensure that she can protect children and knows what to do if she has a concern about a child in her care.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Opportunities to develop older children's skills and interest in the meaning of words and letter sounds are not fully maximised to support their developing literacy skills.  Babies have few opportunities to use natural materials in their play, which limits their ability to explore and investigate a variety of sensory media.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance the environment by using relevant signs, symbols and labels, to help older children develop further skills and interest in the meaning of words and letter sounds  extend the opportunities for babies to explore and investigate by providing them with a wider range of natural materials and sensory resources.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector carried out a tour of the premises with the childminder.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder about children's engagement in activities, and their development and progress.  The inspector observed the childminder engaging in a variety of learning experiences with the children.  The inspector looked at a selection of documentation, including children's learning journals, records and written policies.

who attend. This is good

The childminder teaches children very well. She gets down to their level and is highly involved in what they are doing. She encourages young children to become increasingly independent in their choices. For example, when babies show an interest in toys, she brings them almost within their reach. As a result, they stretch their muscles crawling to reach them, enjoying the physical challenge. However, the childminder does not consistently provide a wide range of sensory experiences for children to explore, such as natural materials and resources, to investigate and stimulate their senses. The childminder encourages children's interest in books and they enjoy the daily story and singing time. This is very effective in encouraging children's communication, language, and developing literacy skills. However, there is limited print in the environment to support older children in recognising words, letters, and sounds to enhance early reading skills further.

p.3

good

Children have a positive relationship with the childminder. She uses praise and encouragement to reinforce children's positive behaviour. This raises their confidence and self-esteem. As a result, children are happy and behave well. The children enjoy daily outdoor activities, including walks along the riverside or visiting local amenities. These activities contribute to children's healthy lifestyles. They learn to keep themselves safe during their walks because the childminder teaches them about road safety. She takes children to toddler groups and soft play centres regularly, which ensures that they develop their social and physical skills well. The childminder encourages the children to develop their independence with self-care. These opportunities prepare them well for nursery or school.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a clear understanding of how to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She closely supervises children and provides a very clean and safe environment. As a result, children are safe and secure. The childminder maintains a good range of policies that contribute to her good practice and she regularly shares these with parents. She consistently reflects on her provision and takes account of parents' views to help guide and inform improvements in her own practice. She regularly observes children, tracks their progress, and plans for their next steps in learning to help them make good progress. The childminder has good partnerships with other local childminders, and she shares information regarding professional working practice. Partnerships with other settings are strong. As a result, children receive continuity in their care. Written feedback from parents demonstrates how highly they appreciate the very good service
