p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder is caring for more children than the legal limit. However, children's care and learning is not significantly affected. The childminder does not fully encourage parents to share observations to support planning for the next steps in older children's learning. As a result, parents are not consistently engaged in extending children's learning at home. The childminder does not provide a wide and varied range of natural materials and resources for children to explore, to learn about the world around them.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder has had safeguarding training and is aware of procedures to follow if she is concerned about children's well-being. The childminder uses visual prompts to support children's behaviour and shares these with parents. Consequently, children behave well as they get clear and consistent messages on expected behaviour.

who attend. This requires improvement
Children are happy and engaged as the childminder provides a range of activities to suit their individual interests. However, most of the resources are plastic, which means that children are unable to explore natural resources using their senses, to develop their understanding of the natural world. The childminder introduces simple concepts such as 'big' and 'small' as children play with toys. This promotes their mathematical development and prepares them for the next stages in their learning. She has developed 'chatty mats' with colourful pictures related to themes that interest children. She uses these to introduce new words to younger children and to encourage older children to share their views and ideas. This promotes children's communication and language development. The childminder makes regular assessments of children's progress. She seeks the views of parents in completing progress checks for children who are two years old. However, she

who attend. This requires improvement
does not seek parents' feedback on what their children do at home to develop plans for older children's learning.

requires improvement
Children feel emotionally secure as the childminder caringly supports them until they are settled, and on an ongoing basis. She positively engages children in simple tasks such as tidying up after play. This promotes children's independence and they develop a positive sense of themselves. Children develop good hygiene practices as the childminder encourages them to wash their hands before meals. She works in partnership with parents in meeting the dietary requirements of children. This promotes children's physical well- being. The childminder talks to children about healthy eating as they play with toy models of fruits and vegetables. She provides them with nutritious lunches and snacks. Therefore, children learn to make healthy choices.
p.3
provision requires improvement
The childminder does not have a thorough understanding of the safeguarding and welfare requirements. She is caring for more children than she is allowed. The childminder evaluates her performance suitably to plan for improvements. She identifies her training needs, for example, to further improve systems for observing, assessing and recording children's progress. She shares information with school staff by attending meetings prior to children starting school. Therefore, there is continuity in children's education.
