p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder is well organised and successfully promotes children's learning and development. She provides children with a broad range of activities that they enjoy which helps them to make good progress.  Children enjoy different activities away from the childminder's home. These activities promote the ways in which children socialise with others and also enhance their physical development through plenty of fresh air and exercise.  The childminder interacts well with children. She enables children to engage well in their play and enjoy their learning experiences.  The childminder promotes children's health and safety well. She implements her policies, procedures and risk assessments effectively. Parents sign to acknowledge their understanding of the procedures that promote their children's well-being.  The childminder evaluates her provision of care well. She attends training updates and reflects well on the quality of her practice in order to enhance the ways children learn.

p.1

This provision is good

Therefore, she promotes good outcomes for children.  Parents are positive about the care their children receive. They state that their children are making good progress and are happy to attend.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder provides a good range of resources overall. However, she provides fewer resources and materials with different textures, so does not fully extend children's creative skills.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 introduce more resources and materials with different textures so that children can explore further in their creative learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector read the childminder's self-evaluation record.  The inspector observed children during their play and in their interactions with the childminder.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and children. She read references from parents and took parents' views into account.  The inspector spoke to the childminder about how she plans for children's learning, and her partnerships with parents and others.  The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and children's development records.

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder has a secure understanding of the learning and development requirements. She finds out about children's development prior to their entry to her setting. This information contributes to how she plans to extend children's abilities and interests. The childminder observes and assesses children's progress. She shares her findings regularly with parents. She plans children's next steps in learning based on her assessments. Children make good progress because of this planning and the childminder's effective interactions. They relate to her and are motivated to learn. Children thoroughly enjoyed a craft activity. Together, the childminder and children drew and painted in different ways and used stickers to add decoration to their designs of spiders and butterflies. The childminder extended learning opportunities well, for example, through counting, using new terminology and helping children to identify colours. However,

although she offers a broad range of resources overall, she has fewer resources to extend children's sensory experiences and introduce children to different and unusual textures. Therefore, she does not use all opportunities to encourage children to explore further in their creative learning.

p.3

good

The childminder is caring and has warm relationships with the children. They happily cuddle up to her for reassurance and are confident to invite her into their play. The childminder is patient and supportive in helping children's independence in readiness for school. For example she offers children choices, and helps them develop confidence for toilet training. She offers lots of praise, which thoroughly promotes children's self- awareness. Children are becoming independent relative to their ages. They understand about good hygiene routines and are cooperative in helping to tidy up. They also make decisions about what they want to do.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She safeguards children well. Her home is safe and resources are suitable for the children. The childminder demonstrates a secure understanding of child protection matters. She is confident in her understanding of the procedures to follow should she have a concern about a child in her care. She has completed safeguarding children training to enhance her knowledge further. The childminder has established effective partnerships with those sharing care of the children attending. These include school and nursery staff. This good practice means that the childminder complements children's learning and provides continuity in children's development.
