The Registered Manager ensures that staff are safely recruited and that existing staff files have all matters detailed in Schedule 2 accurately recorded and evidenced. The Registered Manager ensures that the quality of care is monitored and that young people’s views are considered in staff’s annual appraisals. The Registered Manager ensures that the home is well-maintained and the maintenance programme includes the front garden.

This inspection

Young people make good progress given their starting point at the time of placement. Young people attend education regularly after long periods of dis- engagement from education; this is exceptional progress. Staff advocate on behalf of young people to ensure they are receiving the most appropriate education. A social worker said, ‘Staff do things without being asked, they use their initiative to get things done for my young person.’ Young people engage well with therapeutic services which enables them to develop greater emotional resilience. Staff support young people to have contact with family and friends where that is safe and in their best interests. This promotes young people’s sense of well-being and identity.

p.2

This inspection

Staff develop strong relationships with local services and placing authorities. This includes the police, youth offending service, substance misuse services and therapeutic services. This ensures continuity of care and also provides a basis from which staff can challenge any shortfalls. Staff’s close attention to detail ensures they are able to develop highly individualised care plans, risk assessments and behavioural strategies with which to promote positive change for young people. The effectiveness of these is evidenced in the significant reduction in the need for staff 3 of 5 to use physical intervention. Consequently, young people's outcomes improve.

p.2

This inspection

Young people are safe. They consistently tell their social workers that they feel very safe in the home. Young people’s risk taking behaviour has considerably reduced as a result. There have been no incidents of young people going missing from home since the last inspection. A social worker said: ‘Prior to being placed at the home there were significant safeguarding concerns due to X’s risky behaviours and they would not engage with anyone. X quickly settled and has a very good relationship with staff…..they are excellent at safeguarding.’ As a result young people’s welfare is safeguarded.

p.3

This inspection

The Registered Manager ensures that there is a homely and welcoming environment and that the home is maintained to a good standard. Staff ensure that the care provided is responsive to the needs of young people. For example, some young people are interested in keeping in pets. Staff ensure that young people are well- prepared for this responsibility and provide support to make certain this is successful. As a result young people’s welfare is promoted.
