p.1
This provision is inadequate
The childminder has limited knowledge and understanding of child protection and safeguarding issues. She does not fully understand, or implement, her safeguarding policy, which also links to the requirements of the Childcare Register. The childminder does not know how to use her observation notes to assess children's progress and identify their next steps in learning. Therefore, she does not do enough to challenge and extend children's learning and development. The childminder does not provide many resources or experiences for children to use to express themselves in different ways. Therefore, she does not fully encourage children to develop their creative abilities and imaginations. The childminder does not consistently enable children to use larger toys and resources, to fully extend their physical skills. The childminder does not fully promote opportunities for children to explore natural

who attend. This requires improvement

interesting objects, to develop their understanding of the world around them. The childminder supports children's growing vocabulary as she repeats words and sentences. She also gives children simple instructions, and they show that they understand by responding to her requests. Therefore, she helps them to gain some of the skills they need for their future learning.
p.4
inadequate
The childminder's weak knowledge of child protection issues means that she does not fully promote children's welfare. Children generally feel secure as the childminder helps them to recognise when there is a change to their daily routine, and she comforts them when they are upset. The childminder regularly takes children to toddler groups where they make new friends and develop social skills in readiness for school. The childminder promotes children's health appropriately. The childminder obtains information from parents about their children's dietary requirements to ensure she meets their individual needs. The childminder takes children out on a daily basis, so that they enjoy plenty of fresh air and exercise. However, children do not have many opportunities to play with larger resources, such as wheeled toys, to fully develop their physical skills.
p.4
provision is inadequate
The childminder does not safeguard children well enough. She uses her safeguarding policy as a guide to making referrals about any concerns that she may have about a child. However, the childminder lacks understanding of the signs that may cause her concern meaning that she is unable to act promptly if a child is in danger. The childminder carries out daily risk assessments to keep her home safe. She attends some training sessions, such as first aid so that she can take appropriate action if children have an injury. The childminder is working positively with parents to promote continuity of care for children.
