p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder's secure knowledge of safeguarding procedures ensures she knows what action to take if she identifies any concerns about a child's well-being.  The childminder has established warm, caring relationships with children, which promotes their confidence and motivation.  The childminder closes gaps in children's development. She completes detailed observations and assessments, so helps all children make good progress.  The childminder has developed good relationships with parents. She provides them with up-to-date information about their child's progress and celebrates children's achievements.  The childminder provides children with a good range of play resources and learning experiences which help them to learn.  The childminder has established good links with staff at the local school, so prepares children well for full-time education.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently take all opportunities during play to extend children's counting skills. Therefore, she does not fully promote this aspect of their mathematical development at such times.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 develop children's counting skills further through everyday activities that promote this aspect of their mathematical development.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children at play and the quality of teaching.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder throughout the inspection.  The inspector viewed areas of the house used for childminding.  The inspector checked a selection of records and documentation.  The inspector observed interactions between the childminder and children throughout the inspection.

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder encourages children to look through books and discuss the different animal pictures and learn to recognise the letters of the alphabet. Children identify the pictures and read out the letters of the alphabet confidently. Therefore, the childminder effectively promotes and extends children's early reading skills and language development. The childminder provides children with good activities which develop their mathematical knowledge, such as building with small blocks. However, she does not always challenge children's mathematical skills further, for example, by encouraging them to count beyond ten, to fully promote their counting skills. The childminder provides children with learning experiences to develop their social, emotional and physical development. Children enjoy trips out to the local park and they meet up with other minded children regularly. This means children develop friendships and attachments with other children successfully.

p.3

who attend. This is good

Children walk, run, jump and climb, and learn about the world around them. The childminder offers children complex puzzles to develop their ability to solve problems and encourage discussions between the childminder and the children. Children concentrate well as they sort out the puzzle pieces and make four different sized puzzles correctly.

p.3

good

The childminder teaches children about the benefits of eating healthy food and engaging in exercise. Children enjoy eating different types of fruit and play outside in the fresh air which promotes their understanding of healthy lifestyles. The childminder teaches children about good behaviour. As a result, children are well behaved, and share and take turns during play. The childminder provides children with good opportunities to learn about the wider world. She provides play resources that promote different types of people positively and celebrates cultural festivals with the children. The childminder promotes children understanding of safety and hygiene through discussions. Children confidently attend to their own personal needs and understand the importance of road safety.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder implements the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements well, so meets the individual needs of the children. She effectively monitors her practice and improves outcomes for children. Since the last inspection, the childminder has evaluated her practice well and met all the recommendations that were set. She effectively works with parents, requests their feedback and plans for children's next steps in learning. The childminder undertakes first-aid training and reads current information about childcare practice. This means she effectively cares for children and helps them to develop well.
