This provision is good
The childminder's clear enjoyment in being with the children ensures children feel happy in her company, so they flourish in her care. The childminder plans an exciting range of activities and local trips so children enjoy their learning, are motivated and learn new skills. As a result, children make good progress in their learning and development ready for the next stage of their learning. The childminder shows a good level of skill in helping children to feel emotionally and physically secure in her setting. She meets their physical needs well and teaches children how to keep themselves safe and respect other people. Successful partnerships with parents, and other settings where children attend, ensure children's individual care and learning needs are consistently well met. The childminder demonstrates a strong drive to continue to improve her practice. She carries out comprehensive self-evaluation procedures and attends a wide range of

training opportunities to enhance her knowledge.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder's methods for checking children's progress require more development to identify precisely where any gaps in learning exist. There is scope to extend opportunities to develop literacy skills for older children.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder interacting with the children inside and outdoors. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector spoke to a parent and took account of the views of parents through letters. The inspector sampled children's records, planning, risk assessments, and written policies and procedures. The inspector checked evidence of suitability and the childminder's qualifications.

who attend. This is good
The quality of teaching is good because the childminder fully understands how young children learn through play. She takes careful note of the children's particular interests during their chosen play. From these interests she plans further learning opportunities and incorporates extra activities around a complementary theme. This keeps children interested and engaged in activities. The childminder has high aspirations for all children. She routinely develops children's understanding of numbers, shapes and other mathematical ideas. For example, the childminder hides shapes in a tray of oats and skilfully asks questions to help children to think about these when discovered. She provides activities across all areas of learning, both inside and outdoors.

good
Children form strong attachments to the enthusiastic and caring childminder. She is an excellent role model so children behave very well and share resources with their friends. The childminder praises children and encourages them to have a go and to persevere at gaining new skills. For instance, she shows children how to use an apple slicer to prepare a snack for their friends. Developing such new skills builds children's self-esteem and confidence well. The childminder makes the environment visually stimulating with posters and pictures that interest children. She organises the space and resources effectively so that children can move around safely and decide their own play. The childminder teaches children about the importance of healthy lifestyles and actively encourages them to enjoy the fresh air. Children develop good self-care skills. They enjoy healthy snacks and competently help themselves to fresh water from the dispenser on the fridge door.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her role and implements requirements to a good standard. Risk assessments are robust. She demonstrates a strong commitment to improving her knowledge of childcare issues. She has strengthened her understanding of the importance of monitoring children's progress and activity planning for each child's individual needs. However, work remains to be done. Currently, the methods used restrict chances to compare the rates of children's progress, such as that of older children against the younger ones' progress. The childminder is committed to continuous professional development to improve her service further.
