This helps children to become confident learners.  The childminder teaches children to behave well and have respect for each other.  The childminder has effective procedures in place to minimise potential hazards to children. As a result, children are cared for in a safe environment.  The childminder has a good understanding of how to safeguard children and attends training to keep her knowledge up to date.  The childminder uses self-evaluation well. This helps her to reflect on her practice and recognise priorities for improvement.

who attend. This is good

The childminder has a good understanding of child development and uses this to provide activities that interest and challenge children. For example, children drew pictures of animals and talked with the childminder about the pictures they created. This develops their language, communication and physical development effectively. The childminder observes, records, and tracks children's development well. She has a good understanding of the progress check for two-year-old children. She uses this to identify potential gaps in children's development and to support their developmental needs appropriately. Children played with shape sorters and stacking cups with enthusiasm. This helps them to develop physically and supports their early mathematical skills. However, the childminder misses some opportunities to develop children's literacy further, for example, through purposeful signs. The childminder shares information on a daily basis with parents. them in their children's learning well and promotes continuity of care.

p.3

good

The childminder provides children with regular activities outside in the fresh air. This promotes children's understanding of the importance of physical exercise. Children enjoy fresh fruit at snack time and healthy, balanced meals. The childminder encourages children to try different vegetables, which helps them learn about having a healthy lifestyle. Mealtimes are a social occasion when children chat happily, showing that they feel secure. The childminder helps children to prepare for changes in their lives, such as starting pre-school, by promoting independence in their personal hygiene. Children know to wash their hands at relevant times and use separate towels to dry them. This strengthens their understanding of how to manage their personal hygiene to prevent the spread of infection.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder demonstrates her strong commitment to continuing her professional development. As a result of her training on the Early Years Foundation Stage she has a good knowledge and understanding of the learning and development requirements. This helps children to progress well and improves their well-being. The childminder reviews her policies at regular intervals and whenever there are changes in legislation. This shows her commitment to maintaining high quality provision. The childminder has good links with other early years providers and shares information with them effectively. This promotes a shared understanding of children's development and specific needs and has a positive impact on children's experiences. Parents comment positively on the high standard of the childminder's care and the impact it has on their children's development.
