The last full inspection in May 2014 judged the home as good. No requirements were raised and one recommendation was made. This related to the need for the missing from home protocol to be followed when young people were missing or absent from the home.

p.2
This inspection
The home provides a warm, nurturing environment to six young people. Young people benefit from good relationships with staff. They like living in this home and feel comfortable and safe. The home boasts a games room which consists of a new table tennis and existing pool table. The Registered Manager has taken into consideration the need for more space and has changed the home layout affording young people a bigger area within the home. Young people rate their experiences at the home as ‘nine out of ten’. They are regularly consulted and their views are sought and implemented in the running of the home. An example of this is through the bedrooms being redecorated in accordance to their wishes.

This inspection
Staff work effectively with partner agencies and develop positive links with professionals. This helps ensure young people have access to services which are essential to promoting their health and wellbeing. The Registered Manager pursues safeguarding agencies to ensure protocols are adhered to. An example of this is when she contacted both the social worker and police to facilitate a strategy meeting. This is in line with the missing from home protocol for instances when young people are absent. On such occasions, staff go out looking for young people and maintain contact with them to help ensure their safe return. This helps reduce the instances where young people go missing from the home. 3 of 5 Staff work collaboratively with the mental health services to support and strengthen resilience in young people. They seek advice and guidance on how to support young people’s complex and challenging needs and behaviours. Young people benefit from

having clear boundaries and goals in place. Staff use visual aids to build on young people’s strengths to maximise potential and outcomes. This enables young people to make progress in some aspects of their development and helps promote self- esteem.
p.3
This inspection
All young people have school placements and benefit from good attendance. Staff maintain regular contact with teachers and attend parent’s evenings. This helps keep them informed of young people’s behaviours and progress at school. Staff advocate strongly on behalf of young people to break down barriers to their learning. This helps young people fulfil their potential and strengthens their relationships with staff. Although staff make every effort to support young people’s learning, this is restricted due to their computer being broken. Some young people have laptops and are therefore not affected. However this prevents others from undertaking educational research. 4 of 5
