This provision is good
The childminder plans daily activities and experiences to extend children's learning through their own interests. Her careful observation and assessment of their development ensures she is able to accurately identify their learning needs. Children are happy in the childminder's home where they have warm nurturing relationships that ensure they are confident, independent learners. The childminder works effectively with parents. She gathers good information about children at admission and continues to exchange information, so that she can provide for their individual needs. The childminder follows comprehensive policies and procedures to promote children's welfare. She uses effective risk assessments for all areas of the home and all outings. As a result, children are kept safe and secure at all times. The childminder shows a thorough commitment to continually improving her service. She has effectively used all available support and training to develop her knowledge

and skills. Consequently, she is able to ensure all children in her care make good progress in their learning.

It is not yet outstanding because:
Children are not able to freely access outdoor play areas. As a result, younger children do not always have opportunities to explore and investigate in the natural environment. The childminder does not always use a wide range of mathematical language. Consequently, children's understanding of mathematical concepts, is not consistently extended in all activities.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at all areas of the home used for childminding. The inspector looked at a sample of policies, children's assessment records and planning documentation. The inspector discussed children's learning at a focused activity with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of suitability and qualifications of the childminder and the self-evaluation form. The inspector took account of the views of parents through questionnaires viewed at the inspection.

who attend. This is good
The childminder demonstrates a secure understanding of the way children learn. She effectively monitors the children's development to ensure she knows them well and can identify their learning needs. Consequently, she successfully plans for the next steps in their learning and support them to make good progress in all areas, in preparation for school. Children's communication and language skills are successfully extended by the childminder who introduces a wide range of vocabulary at different activities. For example, children play with the train set and the childminder describes what they are doing and talks to them about how the trains move and the sounds they make. Children are beginning to learn to count in some activities. However, the childminder does not always talk to children about different sizes and shapes of resources to extend their understanding of a wide range of mathematical concepts.

good
Children are happy and confident in this comfortable environment. The childminder develops warm and close relationships with the children, allowing her to sensitively support their growing independence. Children benefit from healthy diets because the childminder works with parents to ensure meals and snacks are well balanced. Children's physical development is well supported and they move confidently in the childminder's home. Older children have good opportunities to play, explore and discover on regular outings in the local area. However, younger children do not always have the same access to the outdoor play space. As a result, they are not as well supported to investigate and explore in the natural environment. Children's positive behaviour is effectively supported by the childminder's successful use of distraction to prevent them becoming upset and frustrated. The childminder uses her skills to build children's confidence and self-esteem,

provision is good
The childminder has a clear understanding of the learning and welfare requirements for the Early Years Foundation Stage. She has very well-organised systems and all policies and procedures are in place to keep children safe and protected. Children play in a safe secure environment and they are carefully supported to learn how to manage their own safety. The childminder has developed secure systems to monitor children's learning and development and to effectively assess their progress. She builds strong relationships with parents and exchanges information on a daily basis. As a result, she is able to ensure she has a comprehensive understanding of children's current abilities and can support their learning both at home and in her setting. Parents comment that their children take part in a very wide range of activities and outings and they are delighted with the childminder's service.
