p.1
This provision is good
The childminder provides a broad range of activities for children and supports their learning across the seven areas of learning. Children are happy and feel valued as they form strong relationships with the childminder. This promotes their emotional well-being and self-confidence in order to explore their learning environment. Children follow good hygiene routines. They wash their hands before their meals, which promotes their good health. Children are well behaved and understand behaviour expectations during play. Therefore, they negotiate the use of resources and take turns spontaneously. The childminder demonstrates a secure understanding of child protection issues and follows appropriate procedures to safeguard children's welfare. The childminder has good relationships with parents, which ensure children get the support they need to make consistent progress in their development. The childminder places a strong emphasis on continuous improvement. She monitors

her assistant closely and any development points are quickly addressed through targeted training and support.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always allow children time to think and solve problems to further extend their language skills during activities. The childminder reduces opportunities for children to see written labels in the environment to help them identify play items and extend their early reading skills.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching in the indoor play areas. The inspector held conversations with the childminder throughout the inspection. The inspector sampled children's observations, planning and assessment records. The inspector took account of the views of parents through parent questionnaires and comments made on assessment forms. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder and her assistant's suitability, qualifications, policies and procedures.

who attend. This is good
The childminder's quality of teaching is good. She is skilled at delivering activities that promote children's learning effectively. For example, the childminder understands how to extend learning as she introduces children to a coloured chart and provides a realistic example of the different colours and textures of fruits and vegetables. Therefore, children learn in a meaningful way. However, the childminder does not always extend children's language skills during activities by giving them sufficient time to think and answer open questions. Children enjoy freely accessing play opportunities to promote their independent learning skills. However, some toys are not easily located because they do not have written labels, which makes them difficult for children to identify. Therefore, children miss opportunities to extend their play further and strengthen their literacy skills. The childminder ensures children are prepared for starting school, for example, by having

discussions with them. The childminder also shares children's next steps in learning with parents and encourages them to share this information with their child's new teacher.

good
The childminder provides a caring, happy and welcoming environment for children. The settling-in phase is tailored to children's individual needs as the childminder and parents discuss what is best for each child. The childminder obtains detailed information about children's starting points, needs and routines. The children show that they feel secure in the childminder's care as they happily sit on her lap to look at books. The childminder provides healthy snacks for the children and drinking water is easily accessible. The childminder is highly effective in helping children to understand ways to promote their own good health. As a result, children independently wipe their hands clean after they finish eating. The childminder promotes children's physical activity well as she takes them on walks and outings regularly. Children further learn about road safety when out on outings.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibilities in meeting the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The childminder and her assistant have identified further training, which looks at ways of working together to support each other's roles and improve outcomes for children. They discuss and review all aspects of practice, which includes consistent monitoring of children's progress, their observations and assessments. This helps to inform the childminder of any necessary changes to improve the quality of teaching and learning. The working partnership with parents is good and the childminder maintains clear communication with them. Positive comments from parents indicate they are highly satisfied with the provision and their children's progress.
