This provision is good

 Children are provided with stimulating and enjoyable first-hand learning experiences by the childminder who has an effective understanding of how children learn. Therefore, children's individual learning and development needs are met and they make good progress.  Children are developing good communication and language skills. They chat confidently with the childminder and she shows an interest in what they have to say.  Children thrive in this caring and loving environment because they form appropriate bonds and secure emotional attachments with the childminder.  The childminder successfully identifies and minimises risks in her home and garden. Children are safeguarded because the childminder is aware of her responsibilities to supervise and protect them from abuse and neglect.  The childminder ensures that she works effectively in partnership with other agencies. She knows how to access additional support if a child needs it to help them make even

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Strategies to engage and share ideas with parents about how they can further extend their children's learning at home are not fully successful.  The views of parents and children are not always used effectively to inform and drive the plans for continuous improvement.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 support parents more effectively to guide their children's learning at home so that they can continue to extend the good progress children make in their learning and development  use the views of parents and children more effectively to inform the plans for improvement so that practice is strengthened and the drive to improve is clearly targeted to help children reach the highest levels of achievement.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the children's play, including adult-led and child-initiated activities.  The inspector looked at children's records, safeguarding procedures and a variety of other documentation.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector took into account, the views of parents from feedback the childminder had gathered.

who attend. This is good

Children make good progress. The childminder supports them well, so that they develop knowledge and skills in readiness for school. She uses her own assessments and information from parents to plan for children's learning. Children are well-motivated and their learning is enhanced as the childminder has a good level of understanding of how to promote children's interests and ideas. For example, she embraces and responds to children's interest in reading books. She shares books with children and uses props to maintain their interest and enjoyment of the stories. The childminder monitors children's development well so she knows that they are developing skills across all areas of learning. She keeps parents informed about their children's progress, however she has not yet developed effective methods to share ideas with them about how they can further extend this learning at home, to extend the good progress they are already making.

p.3

good

The childminder plans daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise and provides children with healthy meals and snacks. This means children are developing an understanding of the importance of healthy lifestyles. The childminder constantly praises children for their efforts so they are motivated and have good self-esteem. She takes children to different groups in the community so they are learning to mix and get along with other children well. Children's safety is given high priority by the childminder. She carries out regular checks on her home so children can play and explore safely and confidently. She lets children take small, supervised risks so they learn how to keep themselves safe. For example, she allows a toddler to try and climb onto a chair but she stands nearby ready to step in to help should they need it.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder's home is safe and secure. She is aware of her responsibilities to supervise children and protect them from harm. She is aware of the requirements within the Early Years Foundation Stage. The childminder has built strong links with parents and this ensures children's care and learning needs are well recognised and quickly met. However, the childminder does not fully use the views of parents and children effectively to inform the plans for improvement. The childminder welcomes support and training offered by local authority representatives and this has enabled her to develop the overall quality of her teaching, practice and the environment.
