The setting does not meet legal requirements for early years settings
p.1
This provision is inadequate
The childminder demonstrates a poor understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and this hinders children's learning and development. She does not complete the required progress assessments or gather relevant information from parents to help her challenge children's learning further. The childminder does not observe and assess children's progress and plan for what they need to do next. She does not provide suitable programmes of learning across the required areas. This weakness hampers children's progress in gaining necessary skills for the next stage in their learning. Children are provided with limited play resources and experiences, which limits their progress in the seven areas of learning. The childminder has not developed collaborative partnerships with other professionals engaged in the care and learning of children that attend other settings. Self-evaluation fails to identify and address weaknesses in the childminder's knowledge

of the Early Years Foundation Stage to help her develop her service.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Children show familiarity with the childminder and welcome her engagement in activities. The childminder takes children to other community groups to offer them opportunities to play alongside other children and have additional play experiences. Parental feedback at inspection was positive, including comments about the children being happy in the childminder's care. The childminder works with her assistant to ensure he follows the policies adequately.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage the provider must:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
improve knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage, in order to provide children with an educational programme that includes an appropriate range of play materials that will enable children to make appropriate progress towards the early learning goals in all seven areas of learning ensure children are supported in their progress towards the early learning goals in all areas of learning by making systematic observations and assessments, and using these to plan relevant and motivating experiences for each child develop knowledge and understanding of all required assessments to undertake on children, including the progress check for two-year-olds establish a two-way flow of information with other settings children attend, to ensure a consistent approach to their learning, development and care.
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

develop self-evaluation to identify and address any weaknesses in practice and build on strengths, to improve outcomes for children and to help ensure continuous improvements.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the interaction between the childminder and children. The inspector explored through discussion and observation how the childminder supports children's learning and development. The inspector viewed play materials and equipment on offer for the children. The inspector viewed a sample of children's records, policies and procedures shared with parents, and collated some feedback from parents. The childminder looked at the areas of the premises used for childminding.

who attend. This is inadequate
The childminder does not help children to learn and develop effectively because she is not aware of the learning and development requirements. She does not seek information from parents about their child's development when they start. Therefore, she lacks knowledge about their stage of development to help her plan according to their individual needs. In addition, she is not aware of the seven areas of learning. The childminder does not assess children's development adequately or track their progress. She does not know about the required assessments to carry out, including the progress check for two-year-olds. Although children play with the resources, the range is too limited to enable children to develop skills across the areas of learning. Generally, the childminder knows what children like to play with and where she feels they may need extra support. For example, she takes children to community groups to socialise with other children.
p.3
requires improvement
Children play in a child-orientated environment where the childminder uses space well. The children welcome the warm and caring approach of the childminder. They play in a safe and clean environment, where they learn about keeping safe and personal hygiene. The childminder provides meals that reflect the individual likes and dislikes of children attending. For example, fresh fruit for snacks and rice and chicken for lunch. Children behave well because the childminder uses positive and consistent strategies to teach them right from wrong. The childminder includes the children to help clear away play materials. Therefore, children develop appropriate levels of self-esteem and confidence. Children are keen to go outdoors in the childminder's garden, to play with a variety of different sized balls and ride-on toys. Partnerships with parents are enabled through discussions at handovers, sharing photographs of their child and the exchange of the childminder's basic

policies and procedures. However, the childminder has not made links with other settings children attend to promote continuity in their learning.
p.3
provision is inadequate
The childminder demonstrates a poor understanding of the current framework. Self- evaluation is weak and therefore, the childminder is unable to identify strengths and weaknesses in her knowledge to help her to make ongoing improvements. Consequently, there are significant gaps in the childminder's knowledge, particularly of the learning and development requirements. This means she does not help children to be prepared to make the move to school. The childminder has met most of the actions and recommendations from her last inspection, although she has failed to address learning and development issues adequately to help improve outcomes for children.
