p.1

This provision is good

 Children's confidence and self-esteem are well supported by the childminder because she gets to know them well as individuals and forms secure attachments with them. This fosters their emotional well-being.  Teaching is effective because the childminder has a good awareness of how young children learn. She uses play, planned activities and first-hand experiences to engage children and build on their individual interests. This supports them to develop positive attitudes to learning.  The childminder has a good range of resources, which are well presented and organised. Children demonstrate high levels of independence and make purposeful decisions about the resources they want to use that will extend their play.  A commitment to ongoing training ensures the childminder can continue to meet statutory obligations and develop skills that support her practice.  The childminder has effective partnerships with parents, which makes a significant

contribution to children's individual care, learning and development.  Children are safe and protected from harm because the childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding procedures, assesses risks and has a first-aid certificate.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the childminder does not give children sufficient time to think about and respond to questions.

who attend. This is good

The quality of teaching is good. The childminder makes use of an effective tracking system to check that children make progress from their starting points. She uses the information gathered to provide a wide range of interesting activities and challenging experiences to effectively promote children's learning and development. A good selection of resources is provided for younger children. For example, activity toys encourage them to press buttons and lift flaps to gain a response of either music or flashing lights. Children's early literacy skills are well supported as they have access to a wide range of books, which they enjoy looking at with the childminder. The childminder generally makes good use of opportunities to develop children's communication and language. She provides a good running commentary and repeats familiar words and phrases, which supports young children's understanding. However, at times, she answers questions posed

to children too quickly, without giving them enough time to think and respond, so at these times, they are not able to practise and build on their communication and language skills.

good

Children settle quickly with the childminder because she understands the importance of fully supporting them during the transition from home to her setting. As a result, partnerships with parents are good and secure bonds are formed with the children. This ensures children's physical and emotional well-being is successfully supported. Children's developing understanding of dangers and how to stay safe is positively reinforced by the childminder. For example, children learn how to cross the road safely and what they should do in the event of a fire. The childminder promotes children's healthy lifestyles well. Good hygiene routines help children to learn the importance of keeping themselves clean. Children benefit from fresh air and exercise. They enjoy playing outdoors where they use equipment to develop their physical skills. Weekly trips to local toddler groups and places of interest extend children's social skills and promote their readiness for school

p.3

provision is good

The childminder understands her role in meeting the safeguarding and welfare requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Her knowledge is underpinned by a comprehensive range of policies and procedures that are shared with parents. The childminder is well organised. Information is gathered to effectively monitor the educational programme offered to children, ensuring that it covers all areas of learning and reflects the needs of all children. Self-evaluation provides an overview of the childminder's strengths and areas for development. The recommendations raised at the last inspection have been successfully addressed. The childminder works well with the school that some of the children attend, exchanging relevant information from the outset of care. This ensures continuity and consistency in children's care and learning.
