The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 Children make good developmental progress because the childminder plans a wide range of activities, covering all areas of learning, and works closely with parents to involve them and promote continuity in their children's learning and development.  Children are keen to learn and focus their attention because the childminder introduces a wide range of resources related to their individual interests.  The childminder forms close caring relationships with children who are happy, secure, and settled in her care.  Since the last inspection, the childminder has attended additional safeguarding training. This has successfully developed her knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures and how to keep children safe.  The childminder makes effective use of self-evaluation processes to make on-going improvements to the provision, and continuously improve outcomes for children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always use her good knowledge of children's developmental achievements to provide additional activities that fully extend what they can already do.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen the use of assessment to identify and introduce activities that further stretch and challenge children in every aspect of their individual development.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children participating in activities, both indoor and outdoor.  The inspector talked with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector looked at a sample of documentation, including children's developmental records and self-evaluation documents.  The inspector took account of parents' comments within documentation.

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder successfully helps children to learn and reach expected levels of development through her positive involvement in their play. Children relish her involvement in their play and laugh with pleasure as together they make discoveries. The childminder provides children with a wide range of activities that successfully promote their exploration and enthusiasm for learning. Overall, children are well prepared for starting school. However, the childminder does not always identify opportunities to further extend children's skills, such as, their pre-reading and writing skills. The childminder gives children lots of new information that successfully promotes their listening skills, vocabulary and confidence to communicate. For example, children count sea shells and talk with her about their origin while using them to make marks in modelling dough. The childminder successfully involves parents and communicates with staff in other early year's provisions

children attend. This promotes good partnership and continuity in children's learning.

p.3

good

Children form close secure emotional attachments with the childminder and other children. They move smoothly between the different early years provision they attend because the childminder successfully meets their individual needs. Children play happily together, for example, when pretending to feed soft toy cats. They are independent and confident because the childminder respects and responds to the choices they make during their play. She motivates them to try things for themselves and persist during activities by introducing additional resources. Consequently, children regularly become engrossed in their play. For example, they explore the texture of dried lentils in a tray, and fill and empty containers with them. The childminder successfully promotes children's physical development through a variety of activities. For example, children enjoy building dens, using large sticks, during outings to woodland areas.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder and her assistant fully understand and meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The childminder supervises her assistant to monitor his practice, and ensure he fully understands his role and responsibilities. The childminder monitors children's progress and interest during activities and introduces resources and that successfully capture their involvement. Since the last inspection, she has created a designated playroom where children can access a wider range of resources. The childminder regularly uses a childminding website to introduce varied activities related to the different seasons and cultural events. Actions and recommendations made at the last inspection have been met, demonstrating that she is driving improvements to her practice.
