This provision is good
The childminder uses information gained from her observations and assessments of children's progress and development to plan interesting activities that support all children's learning. Children are happy and settled in the childminder's care, which helps them to develop as confident learners. The childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding. She is aware of her role and responsibilities in promoting children's welfare should she have any child protection concerns. Children have access to a wide range of activities both indoors and outside. They regularly visit the childminder's allotment to feed the birds, grow plants and learn more about the living world. The childminder is committed to developing her provision. She and her assistant attend training courses to keep mandatory training up to date and learn new skills that benefit the children. She involves parents in her self-evaluation processes through sharing

action plans and inviting their comments.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder and her assistant do not always use a range of questioning techniques, which means that teaching and learning opportunities are missed. The childminder has not fully explored opportunities to engage all parents in their children's learning in the setting and at home.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed play, teaching and learning opportunities indoors and outside. The inspector spoke to the childminder, her assistant and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at documentation and a selection of policies and procedures, including children's assessment records, risk assessments, certificates and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and her assistant. The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day.

who attend. This is good
Children's learning needs are well met in an exciting and stimulating learning environment. The indoor environment is bright and welcoming and the children enjoy a wide selection of child-initiated and adult-led activities. Children enjoy making pizzas and they discuss the colours, textures and shapes of the toppings that they have chosen to add. Their knowledge and understanding of numbers are reinforced through reference to the numbers on the clock and the time that each part of the activity will take to complete. However, some teaching and learning opportunities are missed as the childminder and her assistant do not always use a range of questioning techniques that help the children fully explore the subject. For example, children are not encouraged to discuss the importance of hand washing before handling food and the characteristics and origins of the pizza toppings. Children have the opportunity to play outdoors everyday and to visit the

allotment area to learn more about the living world. The childminder knows the children well. She uses detailed observation and tracking records, together with her secure knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage, to plan appropriate learning activities that meet children's individual needs. All children make good progress based on their starting points and are well prepared for the next stage in their learning.

good
The childminder collects information from parents when children start at the setting to ensure that their individual needs are well met. Ongoing summaries and children's learning journals are made available to parents. However, the childminder does not always ensure that parents have all the information they need about the learning and development requirements and their child's learning in the setting, so that they have every opportunity to be more involved in their child's learning. Children are happy and settled in the care of the childminder and her assistant. The childminder responds positively to the children, acknowledging and praising their efforts. Children learn how to keep themselves safe by following good hygiene routines and taking part in regular fire drills. The childminder helps children to learn about healthy eating by involving them in the growing of fruit and vegetables in the allotment garden.

provision is good
Children are safe and secure in the childminder's care as she undertakes regular risk assessments for the premises, garden area and outings. The childminder regularly updates her training linked to safeguarding issues and has a secure understanding of what to do if she has a concern about a child in her care. Since the previous inspection, the childminder has developed effective systems to identify and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of her provision. She produces monthly action plans and invites parents to contribute comments and ideas through discussion and placing notes on the parents' noticeboard. The childminder is committed to improving her work and that of her assistant through observations of practice and training to ensure the best outcomes for all children.
