p.1

This provision is good

 The quality of teaching is good. The childminder listens and supports children's interests through providing stimulating experiences that allow them to learn actively. As a result, children make good progress given their starting points and capabilities.  The childminder establishes good relationships with parents, keeping them well informed about their child's progress and welcoming their comments and suggestions.  The childminder has a thorough understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures. Consequently, children are kept safe.  The childminder places a strong emphasis on supporting her assistant through providing support and training, which enables them to further develop their already good practice and supports children's achievements.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Partnerships with other early years providers are not always fully effective to consistently share information about children's care and learning to complement and support their daily routines.  The childminder does not always work closely with other professionals to seek further guidance on how to maximise support for individual children.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen existing partnerships with other early years providers, for example, consistently share information about children's learning and care arrangements in order to complement and support their individual needs  enhance the practice of liaising with other professionals, for example, by seeking support from the local authority to help ensure any identified gaps in children's learning close rapidly.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke with the childminder, the assistant and the children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector observed activities in the playroom and outdoors.  The inspector looked at the childminder's documentation.  The inspector looked at all suitability checks for the adults living on the premises.  The inspector took account of the views of parents and carers from information included in the childminder's own parent survey.

who attend. This is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and uses her knowledge effectively to monitor children's progress. Children participate in a range of planned and freely chosen learning experiences and move confidently around the home. For example, they enjoy singing nursery rhymes with actions, which encourages them to learn about numbers. The assistant reads stories to the children and they remember repeated refrains. This also prepares children for their next steps in learning as they progress on to school. However, sometimes information about children's care and learning needs is not always shared with other settings. The childminder efficiently supports children's language development but does not always work closely with other professionals to seek further strategies to enhance children's development. Parents are involved in children's learning and comment in their learning journals. These are then used

p.3

good

The childminder provides a welcoming environment in which children are fully supported by consistent routines and effective trusting relationships. The childminder is very caring and parents spend time settling children in when they first start. Children feel secure and are settled well in the childminder's home. They confidently go to the childminder and her assistant for reassuring cuddles and hugs. Children's independence is encouraged as they attend to their own personal needs, such as using the toilet and washing their hands. The childminder fosters healthy eating by providing children with healthy snacks and drinks throughout the day. Children enjoy playing in the garden, which provides them with fresh air and exercise. The childminder and her assistant promote good behaviour through positive initiatives, such as star of the week. As a result, children behave very well and are calm and content.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and has effective safeguarding procedures in place to protect children from harm. She understands the importance of keeping children safe and ensures that she and her assistant attend all external training, which supports their safeguarding role. As a result, children are fully protected. The childminder ensures that the home is safe from hazards so that children can play freely. Through effective self-evaluation, she reflects and plans to improve her provision, for example, by identifying and attending training courses. Parents speak highly of the childminder and the assistant. They comment on the learning opportunities that are provided for their children and how settled and happy their children are. The childminder speaks to parents on a daily basis and shares information about their children's development by providing opportunities for them to look through learning
